1/2 drive ratchet

I am checking ebay for a new or slightly used 1/2 ratchet. I found this one which would cost me around 30 bucks. Is there anything else that would be a better value.

I can get a sk 42470 for the same price. i guess the final question is which is better the sk 42470 or the williams s 52?

Williams is a division of Snap-On, as i'm sure you know, i would say that is probably a better value than SK.

Are you looking for made in the USA. If you are not concern about COO, and want a quality 1/2" fine tooth ratchet. I would get this at lowes for 20 bucks for a fine tooth 1/2"

Between the SK and williams, I go with the fine tooth williams.

The ratchet you linked to is a Linesman ratchet and will have an over sized direction selector, although not shown, which might be a problem for working in tight areas. The S-K ratchets are excellent. I'd pass on anything that Lowes sells.

Only 36 tooth but a good USA made ratchet.

They are both nice wrenches. I like the RHFT SK ratchets. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Do you have other 1/2 drive ratchets in your tool box?

If not or only have another, you'd be ahead of the curve to get something that can be warranteed locally. I don't care who it's made by, it can and does break.

If this is the case I'd suggest as mentioned above, Lowes kobalt, or craftsman thin profile, or checking out the new carlye tool line through napa.

If you have more than 30 dollars, tool truck brands are really nice, but spendy

Like Mickey O mentioned that S-52 LAB ratchet is for people that work with gloves on :lineman, tower builders , etc.,although the price is really cheap compared to online sites that sell Williams tools. I checked it out when I saw it on Ebay the selector is huge looking!

I bought these NOS USA Kobalts for home about 2 months ago . I love the handle on them and you get 3 ratchets for $30 .

This ratchet has a huge reversing lever. I don't know if the seller strategically didn't show it, although he does mention it in the description.

The Craftman 1/2 ratchets are plentiful at the local pawn shops for $10. They are also easy to warranty should the need ever arise.

The first socket set I ever owned was an sk 1/2" drive that came with a fine tooth ratchet. 12 years later that ratchet still looks brand new. I have never had an issue, it has helped restore 3 international Scouts. And repair many a car. I have beaten the hell out of it, used it as a hammer, put a pipe on it and in general abused that ratchet to hell and back. I would go with the SK and never look back. You will have it for a life time because like I said I have spent 12 years trying to kill it and the ratchet laughs...

Those are just Danaher 36 tooth Craftsman ratchets with a Kobalt handle. If you break one you will get a asian replacement. They are a good deal for $30 though.

S-K's "pro series" ratchet's are one of the original "fine tooth" ratchet design's.
The one's made today arent too different then the one's made in the late '30's. About 40-50 tooth, IIRC. Hard to destroy them as well, They are good.

The set is definitely a good deal.

If I do break the gears I wouldn't return it to Lowes, I would just rebuild it with the craftsman kits available everywhere ,and I don't see myself breaking the actual beam these things are pretty sturdy and plus I use breaker bars with a pipe if I need that kind of leverage.

So far I like their handle more than Craftsman's traditional raise panel.

My two favorite 1/2" ratchets are my HF extendable handle, and my long handled flex head SK. The adjustable ratchet is great for low torque uses and tight spots whete my long handle SK can't reach. But, with the flex head, there aren't many places I can't get the SK into.
