That hissing screech you've just heard is Catwoman expressing her extreme jealousy of Batman's bitchin' ride!

Simply Amazzen - Or should I say Marvel - ous!

Well I finally finished my Dream Project.

fujicamera018.jpg

My dream too, I could look at the picture of your car for hours. It brings me back to my youth ... I'm sitting as close as my parents would allow me to a console Zenith TV trying to be in there with Batman and Robin.

Just to give you an appreciation of how difficult it was to re-create the original design.... here's the interior photo in 1966 versus the present day interior....

1966bata.jpg

1966batpresent.jpg

ALL those original items from 1966 were long gone and nowhere to be found! (the original car used to create the Batmobile was the 1955 Lincoln Futura...a one off Concept Car whose unique interior appointments were never reproduced by Ford)

So pretty much all of my interior had to be re-created using old photographs only. You can't imagine how many times I retooled items to get the proper look (and dimensions)!!! The steering wheel was the most difficult accomplishment by far.

fujicamera020.jpg

fujicamera006.jpg

In 1955 Ford designed a Steering wheel hub which housed the speedometer, odometer, tachometer and 5 "idiot lights"....this hub was stationary as the steering wheel revolved around the hub. Simple today, but EVERYTHING in 1955 was limited to direct cabled technology, so back then this was mindblowing innovation.

In the end, The 1955 Futura was morphed into the 1966 Batmobile to create the coolest car on the planet!

Re-creating the car as it was in 1966 was a dream come true. I usually fall in love with all my restorations, but this one was pure magic!

Just read through this entire thread...

AWESOME!

I have to say, as impressed as I am with the garage compound, tools and restorations, though, you yourself seem to be a genuinely humble and appreciative person. Proof that good things happen to good people? I hope so! Keep it up!

I'm in overload... The smallest storage shed you list is bigger than my "garage mahal" plans!

Its great to have more space, but it does tend to over run my resources time to time. I once had 3 projects going at the same time and it nearly killed me.
More space definitely means more work, so be careful what you wish for...big or small, don't bite off more than you can chew. Good luck with the Garage Mahal and keep us posted!

Any pics of the 69 trans ams ?

No pics yet... They are still in the storage shed awaiting their turn (or "return".... to life that is.)

Thank you for the very kind words. I always tell others that good guys don't have to finish last. I must admit however, I do have an issue with the "humble" bit...I feel its difficult to be humble when you're "showing off" and while I hesitate to do so, this more than borders on that. Thank goodness for nice folks like yourself...it makes "sharing" a rewarding indulgence...

Proof indeed!

Shopnut... you are "over the top" my friend!!!

great looking place,

Thank you, like most of us...its a work in progress. ;)

So if you would have to, you could duplicate everything again with no problems, correct?

Any chance you'll sell parts to other Batmobile builders or are you keeping it all to yourself?

Last question (for now) Do you have any pictures of the steering wheel before it was all together? I trying to grasp how the wheel turns the tires but the speedo stays stationary. I imagine that took many hours to accomplish.

Thank you for the kind words about my health, I've been doing much better. While it hasn't disappeared, it has stabilized enough for me to tinker a little. I still can't go like I used to, but I'm more than grateful to be able to work at a steady pace. "Moderation" is the new norm for me. (well most of the time anyway)

PM me the number and I'll try to explain, but I'm not a good liar so I doubt its going to help...:lol_hitti Ultimately you have to amass a ton of brownie points and pick a good time to cash them in; I don't know if you stand chance any other way. :dunno:

Amazzen, glad to hear that your health is returning; perhaps you should reserve that '25 hour of the day' for R&R (Rest & Relaxation - NOT Remove & Replace). lol

So, now that you have TWO BATMOBILES (that was you that won the auction, wasn't it), where are you going to park them? I know you told us that you don't have a Bat Cave due to the high water table, but I'm beginning to doubt that; after all, consider the original Bat Cave.....

I'm glad to hear your health is better-if you don't have that, you can't enjoy the fruits of a lifetime of work. Having been around trucks and trucking all my life, you've got my respect for being one of the few that have done well-more guys go broke than make it in that industry.
Your shop is the stuff of dreams for most of us-great layout, well equipped and very well thought out. I particularly like the way you have it set up as far as the 2 "dirty" bays, several normal work bays and a separate clean "museum" area for the finished projects. There's nothing worse than having to clean everything in the place after you do even a little bondo work on one car or burn some paint on a quicky welding repair....
One thing that's a constant topic here, that you have only touched on enough to rouse curiosity-your shop air system. You've shown us your "overkill" air dryer-How about a peak at the compressor and a little insight into the piping and distribution-Any special drops for media blasting or big impact guns?

Thanks for the comments, we were very fortunate to have good employees and customers because you're right....its a very difficult business these days.
I'm also enjoying the way the shop is set up, it truly makes working less like work. As for the compressor, its a small unit that handles the general duty stuff in the shop and its all plumbed with black pipe. I also have a chiller which pulls moisture from the system. For the big jobs, primarily media blasting we simply use my portable diesel compressor... (best pic I could get you right now)

Hi Kevin!
Yes, its the latest news on DC Comics clamping down on unlicensed Batmobile builders. Its the second time they've sued a builder and won on Copyright infringement. Home builders really don't have to worry as long as they don't use the car to make money (shows, advertising, etc). Personal enjoyment and charity work is perfectly acceptable.

Here's a couple more shop additions that I missed,

I decided to buy a decent old alignment machine since I have the rack and really don't like sending anything out.

photo19a.jpg

I finally broke down and bought a leaf vacuum this past fall.... its such a cool machine. I should have pulled the trigger sooner on this baby...

Thanks for taking the time to document your work and your place. I am glad that you are getting the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

When you did the recreation photo of your Camaro in the old neighborhood, I am curious why you didn't ask the folks across the street to pull down their garage door and temporarily move their car out of the driveway? That would have given you more of an exact match. (You could have offered them a quick spin in the Camaro as compensation for their troubles :) )

Just found this thread today and time spent reviewing ALL was . . . .
AMAZZEN . . . . . .

Love the great collection of cars you've got and great complex to work on them . . BUT . . . greatest thing is your balance in life by having your dad involved in the shop, and your involvement with kid's hockey, etc. That's PRICELESS!!

Take care of your health and make changes where necessary that might risk any setbacks. Crew of GJ's will fly to your shop to sweep, vacuum, and spit-shine any part of complex or cars necessary!! Just give the word and Batcave will be dustfree in no time!! Heck, I'd consider it a vacation to wash and wax all the cool rides!!

Love the DEJA-VU pictures of the Camaro. Amazing to see that little tree in front yard only grow to trunk size of maybe 12 inches in 35 years!!

Dome for the ice rink is Over-The-Top but necessary in your situation with Canadian hockey . . . go Canucks, Maple Leafs, Oilers, etc! . . . which one is your favourite . . . ?? ;)

Presume the Zambonie is propane powered . . . but if by chance it's CNG (compressed natural gas) powered, that would be way cool for me as I'm bona fide CNG nut . . . every running vehicle I have is CNG capable!! Any natural gas wells on your property so you could power the Zambonie and other vehicles on-site with free methane from your own well??

Keep the pics and AMAZZEN stories coming . . . .we love it!!

F@$k me dead! ( that's Aussie for "Nice little shed you've got there , eh" )

My old man grew up in Canada and apparently I have a lot of relatives there. Please please please tell me you're one of them. Love the whole setup. I think the thing I like most is that everything in it looks like its setup for practicality. There's none of those big pretentious areas that look like they cost more than my house to set up, and the practicality of your equipment shows in the quality of work you're able to put out. That's one fine collection of cars you've got there and the future projects list looks like a cracker too.

Not only are you living your dream, it looks like you're living mine too. I've been picking up good project cars for the last 10 years (minimal rust, most parts) and stashing them away in every shed I have on the farm. I've even pulled walls out of the old house and the shearing shed and fitted roller doors to allow me to get cars in out of the weather. Been collecting steel beams and roofing sheets to build the workshop too.

Amazzen - I know that other guys have joked about taking a field trip to come tour your compound, but I really would be interested if that would ever be something you would consider, let us know.
