Whats the best spray on penetrating oil?

I get a lot of broken bolts that come into my shop. I like to spray some penetrating oil on them and let them sit before trying to remove them. My brother and I were talking about all the different brands out there. He said it would be great to find out from a bunch of people what the best products are, I said I think I know of a group that can help. My personal favorite is JB-80 by Justice Brothers (we call it holy water). Have also used PB Blaster which a lot of people seem to like but I didnt have much luck with. A salesman just dropped off a sample of a product by Castle, that is supposed to be good but I have only used it once so dont have much to say about it. I like to use them a few times to see if they work or not before commenting on them. So what brand do you think is the best?

Might be worth looking up a product called Kroil. We use it alot at the refinery i work at.

Another vote for kroil. I think you can only buy that stuff online though? For something readily available over the counter, pb blaster can't be beat.

no silikroil in the body shop...have used kroil now that i see the can...that stuff is good, PB is my go-to, have used the jb-80 in the past and loiked it, just don't run across it anymore.

kroil is great! Do you guys buy it locally? I just have gotten it from the website but unless I buy a bunch I always run out.

Another vote for Kroil. The closest stuff available locally is MOPAR Rust Penetrant. That stuff is available at any Dodge/Chrystler/Jeep parts counter.

ATF-Acetone mix......................53 lbs.
“The Auto Trans fluid- acetone mix was a "home-brew" mix of 50-50 ATF-acetone.
The home brew tested better than the commercial products in this test. Note that
Liquid Wrench is about as good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price.”

I actually get mine from the supplier that supplys my company what prices are you guys getting on this stuff? The small squeeze cans?

Kroil/Aerokroil, ATF/acetone mix, and then PB Blaster (skunk piss) in order of effectiveness.

A solid whack on a stuck rusty fastener after spraying some Kroil on seems to help, too.

I've got to wonder, how did they standardize that test? The torque needed to bust loose rusty fasteners of the same size and thread is going to vary wildly even before you put any penetrating oil on it.

That's still interesting though. I think I'll mix up some of that ATF/acetone stuff myself and see how it works.

Love kroil! It's also got a write up in shooting book/bible as the gun smiths secret weapon or something or another. I forgot but it's got several uses in shooting. I know guys who shoot a lot during matches will take a put a few drops on around to help clean/burn out fouling during the match since they can't clean guns. Grew up using it talking small holes
N such. Rusty bolts, to lots of other uses. It's hard to find. I haven't seen it sold in a store round here in years. Thanks for the link, I was down to 1/4 can.

I buy CRC "freeze off" at Napa, smell's exactly like Kroil and is the best and only stuff I use for rusted brake line's. I have found nothing better.
It works best on threaded item's, I've found. Not as well on non-threaded stuff.

I have to say I was quite amazed at those things when I first saw one in action. For now I will stick with the good old torch.

I have always used WD40, BP Blaster and a few other products until I was told about Fluid-Film. I tried it and have gotten rid of all the other stuff I used.

The main reason I changed to Fluid-Film is I was trying to find something I could spray on my tubing dies to keep them from rusting in the shop, due to humidity and lots of damp weather, during the winter months. All the other products I used never really worked at preventing a surface coat of rust and out of desperation I tried Fluid-Film and it has worked just fine. It is a penetrating oil, just like WD40 and the other products, that works great on everything, but it also contains a rust inhibitor that does not dry out. I now use it on all my machined surfaces and rust is a thing of the past.

It is sold nationwide at John Deere stores and is also sold at some auto parts stores. I've heard that NAPA, AutoZone and a few other stores will be selling it soon.

A friend scored a case of Zep45nc from a sales rep. left a few for me to try. Works pretty good. Dont have a clue what it costs tho!

I have always used Wd-40 and the heat-wrench to get any kind of rusted/seized fasteners apart, but then I started using ATF-Acetone ever since a thread several years ago showed how good it was. I kept it in an oil-can and used it liberally. It worked for a while, until one day I ran across a bolt that wouldn't budge. Imagine my surprise when I lit up old faithful only to find out just how FLAMMI-fucken-BLE Acetone is!!

I went back to WD-40 and the heat wrench.

LPS Labs' KB88 is the cat's ***. We've been using the LPS stuff in place of Kroil aerosols for a while now and have found it to be equal, if not superior.
