My latest project for the shop. I have had this big Prentiss vice sitting around for a few years but no good place to mount it. I don't care much for pedestal mounted vices because they tend to move around when you use them but I figured with a heavy enough base it would be OK. I got a big truck brake drum and a piece if 1/2" thick tubing and mounted the vice along with a pipe vice and home made anvil (made from railroad track). I painted everything grey and then added a miniature vice that I have had since I was a kid, I used to use it while building model cars. I also added a small anvil I picked up a a flea market years ago, I think it is a jeweler's anvil. This thing is very heavy and real stable. Looking forward to using the hell out of it.

I love your backyard shop and the personal touches you've given it. I love the Los straitjackets poster in the bathroom and the great magazine rack. Simply awesome! I also noticed you had some cruiser bikes lingering about as well. Subscribed!

Thanks for the idea Kev. I will admit that that is one of the tinyest vises I think I've ever seen as well.:)

Great idea. That should stay in place for most projects, especially the smaller ones!

Nice details work on the lettering.

Love the '34 too! How much did you take out of the top?

I was just reading an article about a Willy's, in Rod & Kulture mag. Looking at the pics in the article, I was thinking that I'd seen this garage and seen the name Kiwi Kev before. So I came back to GJ to confirm. The Willy's looks awesome, a I love the garage.

I thought the R&K magazine article came out great. I was very happy to see my car in one of my favorite magazines. Everyone involved was easy to work with and professional. Here are some pics by Marc Gerwertz that didn't make it and a few by me. Mark sure is an awesome photographer.

I have raced my coupe a couple of times lately. It is no real race car (283 powered street car) but has a fun launch. Here are a few wheelie pics.....

Just hope my lowly 83 T type Regal does better than your Willys Kev. How about an 83 draw through Buick set up with a TE-62 DT turbo and an 850 CFM carb.:willy_nil I'm relocting the IC and lowering the engine as well as moving it back for a better CG.

Just read this thread start to finish. This space rules. Love the hot rods, scrounged goodies and "collection". So much so I rolled up my sleeves and put these together:

Lockup sans piston, checkers and interstate:

Enjoy and keep the inspiration coming!

Wow, a 283 will generate the torque to do THAT? I have one in my '55 truck and though I don't intend to race it, this photo makes me curious. What's the story on your engine? What rearend ratio are you running to pull that off?

fortyfour - Those logos look great. MAYBE (?) that lower one should have the word "BACKYARD" behind it? Maybe even have a cartoon-ized version of one of his cars in front of his garage? I'd buy a T shirt!

The original art's his if he wants it (PM me). I can make any adjustments he wishes. "Speed shop" seemed appropriate but if he would like it to read Backyard Hot Rod Shop I'm sure we could tune things just right.

Fortyfour.... Thanks man, the art looks great! I don't think I want to do any shirts right now.

Dan in Pasadena.....The gear ratio is 4.56 (57 Olds rearend). It has a super T10 4 speed. It has a heavy flywheel so when you wind the engine up and dump the clutch it really jumps. It's not a horsepower thing, more about weight transfer and with the set back engine, long ladder bars and ballast bumper it has good weight transfer. . It is not a very fast car, maybe 12 second 1/4 mile on a good run.

Congrats on getting your car in Rod & Kulture Kev! That's always a hot rodder's dream.

Fourtyfour, those are some killer logos......Kev you could at least have him make us up some stickers since you don't want shirts for the time being?!?!? Just an idea, lol. Always love to hear about whats going on at your shop!
