shipped a set of flowmasters to an ebay buyer
to start the story , wifey restarted her pay pal last year , we had stopped selling , now that things are not so great , we are selling again .somehow it was inserted in ebay auctions with a letter missing on the link from ebay , although the account worked , but if you tried to check out , no work .

it took almost a week to get that straightened out with this buyer . I received payment , after work on july 3 , had to ship it . what's the next day ? the holiday of holidays JULY 4 ! could not ship , nobody is working . I usually ship parcel post , never have a problem . I had to work all day saturday with no break . the next day no postal , I ship it parcel post first thing monday morning as I had the day off .
as of saturday , no mufflers arrived
because of pay pal , on sunday night , he files a complaint and PAYPAL REMOVES THE MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT !!! what the hell ??
I am not a full time salesman , I am a mechanic at a slow as hell chrysler dealer struggling to pay the bills
I checked with the postmaster today and he said that parcel post could take as long as 9 days ...
I am probably in the wrong , of course , but
I think I bought this MFer a pair of mufflers

Well, it may be slow delivery time, but I don't see how you could be in the wrong. You received the money, sent the stuff off as soon as you could, and the postal service just hasn't delivered it yet. I could see the buyer complaining a bit, but it doesn't even come close to justifying the fact that you're not getting paid for this stuff. Can't you appeal it with Paypal or something?

Did you ship with Delivery Conformation? If not you are screwed. All he has to do is claim they were never received. He gets a refund and keeps the item. Always ship within 7 days of payment receipt and use a method with online tracking. USPS with Delivery Conformation, UPS, DHL, etc.

HA HA HA. Good luck with that. Paypal and eBay are now 100% on the side of the buyer. There are numerous ways for buyers to rip off sellers now days using eBay/Paypal. To top it off the seller can no longer leave any type of FB but positive! Buyer can leave negatives left and right with no fear of receiving any back.

delivery confirmation always.

I had that happen to me once. He received it, I had proof, Paypal refunded money due to his false claims it was broken. I called his local police department and reported him for theft. I got my money rather quickly.:spit:

***** , due to time constraints , I never think right when I ship , I always end up paying more than I charged the customer
I have been really lucky , he is accusing me of being a thief , I am an early ebayer , 1998 never had a problem 100% rating for ten years
my friend got screwed once , but we sabotaged that guy on every auction he tried after that and even when he changed his account name , he could not do business on ebay until we got tired of it

Shipping by Parcel post is a big mistake. it takes forever, has no guaranteed delivery time, and the tracking doesn't show any in progress movement. The best way to ship heavier items is with Fedex or UPS. If the buyer could see the tracking info, chances are, he wouldn't have filed the complaint.

I know , if he wanted the mufflers faster , he should have spent double at summit

For your protection, as the seller, Fedex or USP is a better deal. Their excellent tracking provides less speculation from the buyer, and keeps you in the loop better of the in transit progress and delivery status. I would never ship a mid-high value item to a customer via USPS.

Been selling on eBay since 1996. I use Turbo Lister to list my stuff. It has a shipping calculator it will put in your auction. All you have to do is put in a weight, shipping method, and your zip. It also has a spot to add a "handling" charge which the bidders can't see. I always put $1.00 in it. That will cover Delivery Conformation. The problem with using the USPS and Delivery Conformation is it is slow to update and if the item is lost it will never show as delivered to the buyers address so Paypal will give the buyer a full refund. It's a good idea to require insurance on all your items to cover that.

Sorry but I have to disagree. I have been selling on eBay since 1996. I use to have a daily pickup service with UPS. The amount of items they lost and damaged was staggering. I then tried Fedex with similar results, tried DHL next and it was no better. I ended up going back to the USPS and require insurance and Delivery Conformation on all of my items. I have yet to have anything damaged by the USPS. Yes they are SLOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW if you use Parcel Post or Media Mail but First Class and Priority seem to be ok plus if you sell smaller heavy items you can pack them in Priority Flat Rate boxes and ship them cheaper than any other method and they will send you free supplies like boxes, and preprinted address labels.

USPS delivery confirmation and tracking is a joke. The last 20 or so items I've had shipped to me almost never show the acceptence at the PO and seldom even show them delivered. Plus the mail person won't come up the lane to the house so I end up doing a 50 mile round trip to get it at the main PO.

I had a flat rate envelope stuffed in the box a few days ago with the entire end torn open and folded over with a rubber band holding it shut. Fortunately none of the small items were lost.

Sounds like you need to file a complaint with your local Post Master. Never had any problems like that here or with stuff I have shipped.

Jim six written timed and pictures complaints to the Local Postmaster cc to Columbus and Washington DC. Same driver same ****. The guys at the desk go "Oh **** They did it again" when I walk in. My house is 1/4 mile up a private lane I've sat on the front poarch and watched them put the attempted to deliver letters in the box and drive off. Ran them down a few times to just get it off of them , save a few miles. "Oh I left it at the PO"

This area has always been bad for USPS service. It don't seem like it's going to get any better. There is one sub who will bring them right to the door. Or else beep till I get out there if it's too heavy for her. But the regular driver is useless.

Wow... makes me glad I don't sell stuff on ebay.

I ain't got much that anyone would want anyway...

Maybe you should try it. I am making money as I type this. I quit a full time job as Manager of Networking and Telecommunications at a local College over 10 years ago when I started making more money on eBay than I was making at my full time job. No more boss, meetings, rush hour traffic, getting dressed up for work, gas expense, etc. Work from home anytime of the day or night and you can do it in your underwear. I have cut back on eBay some over the last couple of years since my custom car work has picked up. I also get to do that in my home shop and my own hours. I'd never go back to working for someone else for a living.

The Local PO is great around here. They come right up to my house in the country with a long drive and put packages on my deck. I am the biggest customer at the local PO. I ship a LOT of packages with them. Bring a big load in once a week. If I were you I would get in touch with the Post Master over your state or someone even higher up the ladder.....

This should probably be a new thread over in free parking, but...

I'd be curious where you get your product to sell and how you determine what to sell/what not to try to sell...

I've had one problem on eBay and settled it with squaretrade... BUT... I think I got lucky.

eBay isn't on the side of anyone but eBay. My experience is that they do as little as possible in a debate. And, they have recently changed the rules to be lopsided to the buyers...

Good Luck... I hope you get paid!

That's how it started for me. I started out buying slot cars for my collection. Then I started seeing other stuff and said hey I have that. Took off from there. I have lost count of the number of items I have got from free to less than five bucks that have sold for fifty or a hundred or more. Best deal I ever made was when I bought out a old watch repair guy. Paid $1500.00 for all his inventory and old tools. Sold it all for over $15000.00 on eBay. I made well over 6 figures that year and have many other years. I bought out a old Ham Radio guy once and got about 15 truck loads of electronic test equipment and parts. Some of it was from NASA and still had the NASA ID tags on it. I made a killing on all that stuff. One guy drove from NY to MS to pick up a rack full of equipment that was from the Mercury Space Program. He said it was going in a museum. Bought a book about Evil Kenvil once for 25 cents and sold it for $75.00. I could go on and on and on.

Do a lot of looking at completed auctions. See what sells for good money. Go to garage sales, auctions, flea markets, put wanted ads in local papers, etc. I have been doing it long enough that I can just look at something and pretty much know if it's worth buying to resell or not. I also have regular people that stop by with stuff and call me with stuff now that I have been doing it for so long. I was in a "junk" shop a few weeks ago and saw a model of the PT109 boat. It was about 3 feet long, well built and mounted on a stand. I paid $25.00 for it and it sold for over $200.00. Just do some research. Start out with stuff you know something about or like already and go from there.

As mentioned multiple times, never ship via any service that doesn't have some form of Delivery Confirmation. It's better for you, it's better for your customer.

As far as the guy scamming you, contact his local police department, and contact the Postal Service/Postal Inspectors fraud department. If they're using the Postal Service to commit their fraud, they're playing with fire. Mail Fraud is no joke, and I'm more scared of the Postal Inspectors than I am of any other federal law enforcement agency.

Yep the Postal Inspectors can get things done. I had 2 show up at my house one time asking why I was ordering so much Priority Mail shipping stuff. Showed them around my home eBay business and they said ok thanks and left me a card to call if I ever had any problems.

I had too many complaints from eBay buyers about when "it was gonna show up" from USPS, "did you send it?" and started using UPS with tracking; all the whining went away and insurance is a must as so many people get pissed or upset with "broken" items or whatever. Many people just won't believe you when you say you shipped things out; with tracking there really isn't anything to argue about; plus, who doesn't like to watch their packages progress from the seller to your home?

What I don't get is some sellers will accept PayPal only and some sellers will accept USPS money orders only. But the sellers that accept both get the most amount of bids.

I buy a fair amount and sell occasionally. I nearly refuse to buy from anyone that does not take Paypal, and I search out retailers that take PayPal also.
If you don't take Paypal you are at a serious disadvantage IMO.

Yes, PayPal has it's problems, but it's way to convenient to ignore for me.

It all depends on who's screwed you - PayPal, or buyers.

PayPal likes to take money away from sellers with little or no proof of any misdeeds. Requiring payment via USPS Money Order only is the safest way - it's another piece of armor for sellers that involves the Post Office.

As far as shipping goes, one of the best things the USPS did was provide Priority Mail with competitive rates. Those flat-rate boxes are awesome, and even packages that aren't flat-rate are still usually cheaper than UPS or FedEx, and faster. If you print your shipping labels at home, Delivery Confirmation is free (or at least, it used to be).

It's not tracking, but it's proof of delivery.

Paypal maybe better these days but many people early on got burned badly with thousands of dollars locked up in flagged or frozen accounts with no legal recourse on getting there money back! If someone got burned that way; I can see why they would refuse to use Paypal. It only takes one time getting burned like that and you certainly wouldn't want to use Paypal again. I'm under the assumption that since ebay bought Paypal things are better but people getting the shaft in the past was not a uncommon problem; once something went awry with your account they would freeze the account and your money was gone. Paypal is uber convenient but at least in the past; you could get burned! Maybe others here can vouch for the current Paypal situation but in the past there were problems that was financially detrimental to many people. Plus, with the increase in fees on all levels; they may want to avoid the extra fees using Paypal requires; the increased fees in eBay alone, caused allot of people to stop using eBay as well.

I'm curious, how much does a PayPal transaction cost? The USPS money orders are a $1.05.

The problem as a seller is that the buyer has to pay for the money order, but the seller has to pay the fees when they accept PayPal. When I sell stuff I really hate paying those fees, but I look at it as a cost of doing business. A lot of people won't buy if they have to go out and get a money order and then mail it off.
