Bosch 18V Impact Driver Wrench preview via TG

Sweet! It would be awesome if they license the design to hand tool manufacturers so we start seeing 1/2" ratchets with built-in bit holders. I imagine that 3/8" ratchets would be too small for reasonable strength requirements.

(Right now this was announced in EU only.)

You're very welcome! I try not to regurgitate too much here, but thought the cordless impact crowd would find it interesting.

No word on COO, but it's almost definitely not USA, Swiss or Germany. I could be wrong, but no way to check. The tool wasn't announced in USA yet and Bosch Germany contacts probably won't answer my questions.

Couple of other recent drill/drivers were Malaysia as well. Who knows where the many various components come from.

It's a pain that latest news comes out in EU first, but I try to be on top of things. I also saw an 18V screwdriver, new 12V radio, and an odd looking L-Boxx lantern.

Recent production for the 12volt 1/4" hex PS41 has been in Mexico, along with the 18v 1/2" hammer drills

Recent production for the 12volt 1/4" hex PS41 has been in Mexico, along with the 18v 1/2" hammer drills

interesting, but makes sense to make tools locally for the local north + south american market. The only mexican made Bosch i ever saw here was a router

I am new on the impact market so sorry if I sound stupid but would that thing deliver enough torque if I have to do some repairs on a car / take wheels off?

The spec that Stuey quotes on his website (1st post) is 180 Nm when used in the 1/2" drive mode . What is the torque spec on the vehicle you drive? It would work good on my '81 VW Caddy but might not on my
Dodge Ram 2500.

the bosch impactor will be malaysian. It is the same compact family impactor as the 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2. The only different with the 1/2 drive is it has a more torquey motor. 180nM vs 150nM for the smaller sizes.

max 120nm but I once read that you can double that number when you want to see if a machine is powerful to take that bolt off an its a bit rusty.

The Bosch website in Germany has the compact impactors with 150nm and the 1/2 as 180nm. I have a 1/2 impact and it has more power then the 1/4. I use the 1/2 to break my lug nuts and never have issue with snow tire changes. My 1/4 impactor strains a bit for the same task.

The 14.4v has 10nm less then the 18v system 170nm. That is true for the smaller drive size as well.

Oh, okay. For a moment there I thought you had insider info. Monte certainly seems to as well.

The impact is definitely not up to full-size 1/2" impact power levels, but like you mentioned it's a compact tool.

You realized that the German announcement allot of times comes outa day or two ahead of the English announcement. And it is integrated into thei German web page right at the announcement with Bosch and other German tool brands. Think monte surfs the tool site more often then others in Germany.

Panasonic did a nifty multi drill driver which had a half inch drive for sockets and whatever and also had a chuck that fitted over that half inch drive end.

Made it quite a long drill but I wonder if the chuck would fit this Bosch so you don't need 1/4 hex drill bits?
