What's up with canadian SO tools

I'm looking for opinions from fellow americans on canadian stamped snap on tools. To be clear, i'm not bashing canada...

But, If you found one used, would you have any hesitations about buying it. Is there any troubles with warrantying a canadian stamped tool on the truck. Is it considered wrong to not disclose the made in canada stamp if selling on ebay? And am I to assume that the part numbers for canadian stamped, and equivalent USA stamped tools are the same?

why is it a problem? Snap on manufactured stuff in Canada and then sold it in other countries. I bought Snap on tools when I lived in the U.K. some said made in canada and some said made in the USA.

BTW my Canadian Snap On dealer warranties made in the USA snap on stuff without any hesitation.

Snap-On Can. is still Snap-On, warranty is not a issue.

No, but I'm not sure why you would want to hide the fact. It might actually make the item more interesting to buyers. They don't make 'em here anymore...

I have personal experience with this. For Christmas last year my 19 year old son gave me a box of about 20 different snap on tools marked canada he found cheap at a swap meet. Although most were in ok condition, a few were really showing their age. I took them in to my dealer and was hesistant but he simply told me snap on is snap on. The majority have been swapped for.new now and my kid loves the fact he got me some tools that I have brand new now. (I also showed him the price guide and I think that part really Stokes him! ) he thinks he is a good bargain hunter and for the 20 bucks which he paid I think so too!

Snap-On like many other manufacturers had production facility's in Canada because of the high Canadian Government import tariffs at the time they had to pay to be able to sell their products in Canada it was cheaper for them, also it had to have a certain amount of Canadian labor.
NAFTA changed all that.

I bought a set of 1/2" drive metric sockets on a clip from a snap on truck in Canada. Half the sockets were stamped "Made in USA", the other half "Made in Canada". I've never had to warranty one yet, but seriously doubt it would be an issue.

So when did snap on make these Canadian tools year,wise start and finish?

I should know this, but I don't, so if anyone has definitive dates, please post.

What I can say is that Snap-on had a Canadian factory by 1946 for certain (and possibly earlier) and I believe they still manufactured wrenches and the like into the 1980s.

They manufactured storage items in Newmarket until April of last year.

Yes, they did.

In 1946, the manufacturing plant was in rented premises in Long Branch, ON (in the most south-west corner of Etobicoke). I'm not sure if this was the first year at this location or as a manufacturer in Canada.

In 1951, a brand new company-owned building housing Manufacturing & Canadian Administration was built at 41 Cranfield Road, Toronto. This remained the plant address until 1967.

I believe the HQ and manufacturing then moved to the Concord location at 8271 Keele Street (even though this location was already occupied by Snap-on from 1956) in a building now occupied by Clover Tool Manufacturing. I know Snap-on was still present at this location in 1979.

I do not know what occurred after that...

Of the Canadian tools you have left, are any date-coded?

I have a Canadian-made F720 ratchet with a 1985 date code, so we know they lasted that long...

I do have a Snap On F-710B ratchet made in Canada,bought it from another member here.Has CAN instead of USA on the handle,made in 1965
