Tripped Cuttler Hammer breaker

Tech in the lab plugged too many hot plates into an outlet and lost power. What was surprising was when I checked the breaker panel, the breaker appeared to be in the off position, not the tripped position.

Anyone ever heard of a breaker that trips to the same position as one that was switched off? These are switch rated breakers. I went right by it since it looked off, not tripped.

It was warm, so I know it was being used.

CH series breakers do this.

To add to Speedy's comment, the CH series breakers have a sandlewood colored handle.

Strange thing is that bolt-on version of that breaker, the now obsolete CHB the tripped position is the intermedite postion, most have a gray handle.

Thanks.... I just wanted to make sure I was not loosing my marbles and missed the tripped breaker.
