We contacted Epoxy-Coat 2 weeks ago and they worked with us on a look we are trying to achieve. They sent us base samples of standard in stock Yellow, Green and flakes of JD Green, Yellow and Forest Green. After speaking with Christine several times we found out they can do a custom color for a few dollars more and even got a custom John Deere green colored sample sent out the next day.

We placed our order yesterday for Full kit of 500 sqft John Deere Green base, 4 lbs of JD Green flake, 6 lbs of Yellow flake, Polyurea clear coat & a patch kit just in case we need a little more since we are 500 sqft exactly.

We ordered with the understanding that we will have it by this coming Friday. I will update this thread for others to see the garage before and after along with our progress and method of application.

Any helpful tips for what not to do or what you did for success would be greatly appreciated.

I would say yes to that but the JD Green flake samples we received and the John Deere Green Epoxy sample we received were slightly different in shade. We also compared the JD flakes and the John Deere epoxy sample from Epoxy-Coat to a John Deere tractor at the dealership and all were a slightly different shade. We also looked at Green plastic, metal and decals on the new John Deere tractor at the dealership and they were all a slightly different shade. We are using the green flakes to help add texture or look since our floor has slight divots in the surface. We saw another floor that had a heavy flakes content and it drove the eye away from concrete surface imperfections.

Sorry we had pictures attached on the first posting but the allowed upload thumbnail attachments made the text we added on the pics so small we could not read them. It took me a bit to figure out how this site allows outside hosted pictures to be full size in the text area. We now can add good details and pictures so others can follow our what is hopeful success.

We just followed up with Epoxy-Coat to find out if our materials shipped and if they had an invoice ready for us since we had not received it by email yet.
Kelly answered and said Christine was with another client and wondered if she could help. I asked to verify invoice and shipment. It took her 1 minute and said it was in transit and would be delivered tomorrow at end of day. She also verified my email to send an invoice and tracking information. When I hung up the phone an email was delivered.

We ordered one full kit of custom mixed John Deere Green on Monday 8-27 at 2 pm. They promised it by this coming Friday and I will have it a day early! CANNOT GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT. Hope it comes in one piece due to the UPS 20' throw rule.

I found your construction pictures you posted and that is not a garage that is a dream for some of us. 6 kids ago I would have been able to do that but if I tried to build that now with 8 kids more toys would be purchased by the wife to fill it up and make me upset I bet.

Cannot wait to see your finished castle.

When we arrived home this afternoon we had a present on the front porch. 2 days after ordering custom John Deere green it arrives on the porch! We will be posting several pictures so others can see how they can expect to receive a delivery from Epoxy-Coat. All 3 buckets were sealed and no exterior damage was present. We did have one bucket with a broken paint brush handle and in the same bucket it had Aluminum Oxide all over the bucket. The bag was torn due to it getting in between the two interior buckets and causing a hole in it. Had a mess on my hands to vacuum up but have no idea how we did not have more damage than that since items are just laying in the bucket.

Bucket 2

No labels on the exterior. The busket contained a smaller bucket with no clear label what it is. I think it is a patch kit of extra epoxy just in case we run short (We paid extra for it). 6 lbs (exactly 6.1 lbs) of Yellow 1/4" flake, 4 lbs (exactly 4.12 lbs) of JD Green 1/4" flake, spike shoes kit (plastic bottoms, straps & spikes with nuts). Cannot believe none of the flake bags were torn or damaged since items are free in the bucket.

Do yourself a favor and go buy a real squeegee. The ones in the kit are great for a shower, but they just aren't big enough to be spreading epoxy on a garage floor.

Measure your part A and part B using graduated plastic buckets instead of using their marked mixing stick.

I agree with the sticks are **** too. We used the 1/2 kit bucket to mix. I can't imagine using the large bucket to mix and see the marks on the stick

I'd pick up a couple of more cut brushes, three more roller covers (have two for the epoxy and two for the topcoat), roller cover frame and pole, and pans.

If you want to spend a little bit more, get 18" roller covers, frame, and pans.

Talk to your bucket supplier and tell them no more black and to only supply you clear or a clear strip down the side with measurement marks. I am sure they can or you can find another bucket vendor that can. Even better you can say same cost or again find another vendor.

If you had a clear bucket then customers could see what was inside at Lowes and also if any damage was present such as a leaking Part A or B.

Well as many are being pounded with the tropical rain storm we are in that group.

We decided to get technical and get a Hydrometer to check our space Humidity and Temperature. Below are two version sold at Wal-Mart. After we took them out of the package we hung them on our HVAC return air filter grill in the house to see how much they were off from each other. We saw a slight difference between them. The $3 non-digital is slow to react to Humidity and Temperature. The $9 digital one is fast on Humidity and sorta fast on temp. Nice to have the memory on the digital one that shows Hi and Low from when the battery was inserted. The below picture of it in action is when we first placed it on the floor at 8pm CST. We will log temp and humidity each hour.

I use this one. Costs a lot more and you can't buy them at Wallymart though.

Well had several PM's asking for updates.

Update is my corn, tomatoes and bushes have died from no rain but over the last 4 -5 days we have recevied the shortage for 2012 rain totals and then some. That said we have done nothing but acid clean again for the fun of it and are just waiting out the high temps and humid days. Been running a dehumidifer and it is working great but since the outside ground is soaked with recent rainfall and overcast skys I believe it will be mid-week before the green hits the floor.

Wife is poking at me daily about all the work that has been done but the garage still looks no different except looking like we have been robbed since all of our stuff is in storage.

75 deg and 78% humidity almost all day in the garage. Cannot open garage door since we keep getting pop up rain showers. At least my grass is green!

Guess what more rain today. Outside Humidity is 83% all day but at night my RH meter shows 91%!

Just washed off the slab with TSP and water since others said Muratic Acid needs to be neutral and just water wash off will not do it. Bored so got up and just washed out the garage and used a squeege to get the excess water out.

I had never tried to get the water out but HIGHLY suggest you immediately after washing out the garage with water use a blower or squeege to get it out. My floor quickly dried on the surface and every time before it took a while to show a dry look. Understand water is still under the surface but in areas where humidity is not so high it would help drying out time.

Rent a dehumidifier and control it. I had 4 installers get caught in the rain today applying exterior overlays. Power washer tomorrow to blow it off and start over.

I think we are the only people in the US that is getting rain everyday and have over 80% humidity day and night. Tomorrow is the day no matter if rain is hitting the floor. Tired of waiting.

Is there any way the product can be measured out by weight? I wouldn't mind investing in a inexpensive digital scale to be accurate. i.e., if its mixed at a 2 - 1 ratio, then place a empty container on the scale to get the tare weight, pour in the first product until it hits 100 grams/ounces/pounds, then pour in 50 grams/etc of the second product.

Interesting that you mentioned this because in the professional world of coatings, it's typical for amounts to be stated by weight instead of volume.

Never told anyone but our driveway to garage slab seperation line was poured on a Friday after lunch where everyone had a 12 pack.

The line is 3 in off center. If you look at the picture below you will see I popped a line and cut my own line so I can take my epoxy to the new line. Decided that I will get an aluminum diamond plate and cover the lines. When my garage door is closed you can see the line outside and it is badly off.

Cutting the line and furring the edges was no fun at all.

Garage is clean and ready for Epoxy!

Yes the bump wall is brown, white, yellow and a few other colors. They are all primer and I was trying to decide what color to end with. Valspar High Hide is excellent on fresh block. One coat and sticks perfectly. After Epoxy is done I will be painting the bump wall bright yellow to tie into the floor. I also have to paint the trim white.

We had 31 PM's asking where are the floor pictures.

Think we have a few friends and a few ready to burn the garage down if we do not get it done. Sorry had to help a neighbor out today with replacing a water heater and flue pipe. Previous bad install made it fun to fix.

Would install floor right now but guess what... Yep RAIN but good news in sight. No rain after lunch tomorrow for almost a week and cold front behind the rain tonight.

No doubt floor is getting done after the weekend. Sorry have birthday parties and wife pre-planned events that I cannot miss or I will be living in the garage.

Sorry not to reply to PM's I thought this would be better so all would see why floor is not done again. Have humidity under control but know I will have to leave the garage door up to get the edge of the floor under the garage door and then water will possibly get on the floor and make it cloudy per Epoxy-Coat. If I waited this long due to rain every day then I can wait a few more.

Can't wait to see how this turns out, closing on our new home in two weeks, first project will be the detached garage, then the attached garage. I have been reading about all the epoxy options and have landed on this product as my top choice.

I was a cheap tail on it because I purchased a large pallet of tools from a lost airport baggage auction and on it was a boat load of Harbor Freight tools.

I had several HF Air Grinders. I kept 2 and one removed the guard. I then used 6" concrete wheels that were 1/8" thick and 3/8" thick.

I used a chalk line and popped my line. Then I used the 1/8" cutting concrete wheel and lightly scored the top of the concrete. TAKE YOUR TIME IT WILL DANCE AROUND EASILY. After I got the hang of the cutter it took about 20 min to do my 16' wide top cut. I then went back to the start and again used the 1/8" cuting concrete wheel and did a deeper 2" cut and it ate the wheels up fast. I used 6 of the 1/8" wheels. approx 2.50 each. May have been a little less cost. I then used the 3/8" thick concrete grinding wheel and went at making the cut width a little bigger and curving the edges. I had a floor fan right beside me as I was grinding or cutting the concrete because it was messy. I covered the wife's SUV and she was lets say a little pissed. I used about 4 of the 3/8" concrete grind wheels and they cost about 2.50 each.

If you look at my picture the edge against the garage is pretty straight and correct looking. The right side of my cut is rough because I had to grind down the concrete since it was higher on the driveway side and I plan to use a plate over the floor cuts since they are not attractive to myself.

If I had it to do again I would check into a skill saw to cut the line deep on one pass. There is no real easy way on how I chose to try it.

Total time to cut and curve was about 1 hour.

We at least did our chip seperation from the total 10 pounds that included 6 pounds of Primary Yellow and 4 pounds of John Deere Green labeled as (JD Green).

It was no fun and actually a challenge to get them mixed correctly without smashing the chips. We first poured out all of the yellow chips into one clean bucket. We also did the same for the green chips. We measured out .60 pound of yellow and .40 pound of green into a small clean bucket. We rolled the bucket as we poured it into another clean bucket. We did that back and forth about 6 times. It looked very close to a true mixed batch and then we poured that into two 1/2 pound bags. We repeated that until we now have 20 1/2 pound bags.

On the last 1 pound of mixing we have the bottom of the buckets so they have smaller chips since they fell to the bottom of the buckets and bags. I included a picture of the last bag to show the smaller chips. I will screen out the last two bags over a window screen to remove the small chips.

ONE OF MY STICKS IS MARKED WRONG!!! The stick included in the custom mixed green was correct on both sides. The stick in the Polurea clear kit was wrong on the STANDARD mix side only the bouble mix side was correct.
