I have been looking for a bigger box, I am going to need one soon, and i figured might as well do it while my trade is still worth anything. I talked to my dealer, I wanted a kra2422, I told him 2800, he said "no, theres no rebates to me, so theres none to you."
What he did offer me was a krl722 for 3400. (with a trade of my matco cart)
or a krl7022 with an armor guard top, and carbon fiber drawer fronts, and the box cover for 3900. The 7022 is a smokin deal at half off, but both are more than I had hoped to spend. Is this a good idea? is the 7022 worth the extra 500? Both are more than what I need right now, but the 7022 is more likely to be the last box I ever buy. Also, does this sound like a hell of a deal, or do list prices not really mean anything?

I've actually owned a 722 in the past and currently own a 7022. Both boxes are damn good. I paid $2900 for the 722 new and 4200 for the 7022 used with a new stainless steal top. I personally like the 7022 cuz its taller. Obviously has more storage capacity and way better casters. You can't go wrong with either box but in your case the 7022 seams like the better deal.

ok, so it seems like the 7022 is as good of a deal as he is talking it up to. I know I just missed out on the buy a tool box get a $500 dollar E-Revo R/C car, which *****, but I didnt think i would get nearly this much stuff for 3900. Also, the drawer guards and top will be for sale in classifieds if I go this route, so keep your eyes open.

You will fill up a 722 pretty quickly. Buy the 7022, its a no brainer. A side cab is almost 2 grand for the 722 alone. Plus, the 7022 is a little bit taller and deeper. You get a lot more space for just a little more cash. I wish i went 7022, oh well.

i myself opted for the 722 and service cart. I like that choice because the 722 is small enough that i dont have to kill myself pulling it around bay to bay, and its big enough to hold all my sockets in the top drawer, along with all extensions and most common used ratchets. And the cart is handy for working anywhere of course

As far as using a cart vs. moving the whole box. At my current job I'm comfortable enough with the work that I can toss tools onto a little rubbermaid cart and roll it to where I need to go. The 7022 is certainly larger than I need right now, but having the space is nice. Im just not looking forward to payments. Im planning to try to pay it off ASAP.

Armor top and carbon fiber drawer fronts? What's that all about?

He has a pre-"built" box on his truck. Red with the black trim, armor top and carbon drawer fronts. I'm guessing he got a deal on the whole package. Personally I prefer the wood tops myself.

I love the 30" depth in the 7022. And if you ever decide to sell, the 7022 would be the easier sell and IMHO would justify at least $500 or more vs. a 722.

if you have room for it, the 7022 would be my pick. I had a KRL722 and, though it is a great, well built toolbox, the 21.5 inch drawers were a little limiting with some longer tools if you wanted to store them front to back.
