Just for Jeff, an ATT promotional (super cheap and cheesy) tool set.

Some kind of jig system for woodworking joints (dovetails, etc)

Plumbing, and office stuff, a clamp for a wrench set, brazing rods

a magazine and some rounds for an unknown rifle

continues--->

zuk

That appears to be a remington pump or auto loading rifle magazine... .30-06?

Craftsman V-shaped shifters appeared in 1959 and were discontinued in 1965 when they went to the "quick-release" detent for the sockets.

http://home.comcast.net/~alloy-artifacts/craftsman-maker-v.html#v-shaped

I have a 1/2" ratchet like this and it is a very good ratchet.

This one was very stiff to switch directions. I soaked it in carb cleaner, opened it up, washed out the crud, re-oiled, and it is pretty easy now.

Still a little stiffer than modern ratchets.

And oh so cool looking!

OK this is what I showed you guys I brought home last Saturday:

I repainted the drawer fronts, and top and sides in flat OD, which is sort of a match for the gloss OD the drawers were originally, and still were. At least it looks presentable now. and is in postilion in the "Hardware store" section of the garage:

I cut a section of the Treadmill belt from the TM I scrapped for the motors and controls to top it with. The red plastic tray is my somewhat limited supply of Metric fasteners, and the blue machine is my heated Ultrasonic cleaner.

I still have another 18 drawer unit to do that I've had since spring, but it still needs one more drawer and a home before that happens.

The V selector on that rachet reminds me of Star Trek! LOL. I have one and I love it. As for the Walden ratchet, the only thing I have ever found from this company is one short 3/8 breaker bar. Pretty cool though.

Big hammer, little hammer.

The big one is New Britain and weighs 3.6 lbs (50+ ounces) which is pretty big for a ball peen, in my experience.

The handle on the little one isn't much thicker than a twig as its narrowest. Very delicate.

sumner, That is a Carllwrench adjustable/pipe. My favorite thing is the full can of CRC from the early 70's brings back memories of my Dad.

Hope you kept all that good stuff!

Oh yeah. Everything in that pic is still in my garage. Vises are being cleaned in my electrolysis tank. I kept the 24" pipe wrench and will clean the rest of the stuff up for fleabay or craigslist. I don't think I'll need a 48" pipe wrench around the house, and I certainly don't want my wife using it on me! :willy_nil

adm, the hydra cable cutter, will it cut chain? I ask because with my disability it is difficult for me to use 36" bolt cutters. I cut the dogs chains, quick links ect. to add swivels or shorten length. So am looking for options.

I've got a couple of those chain wrenches from a recent buy. Which one do you want? :p

The one clearly shown in this pic?

Or perhaps the one in this pic?

For reference, the larger pipe wrenches in the pics are 48" ones.

Looks like a typical roughneck collection.

jas....yes the hydrashear will cut the chain you speak of

C'mon JS. We need a shot of the statue glowing in a dark room.

We can all sing

"Well, I don't care if it rains or freezes, long as I got my plastic Jesus, sittin' on the dashboard of my car.
Comes in colors, pink and pleasant, glows in the dark cause it's irridescent
Take it with you when you travel far."

Posted about it in the "Show your new tools" thread, but probably more appropriate here...

Just got two "Utilitech" 15 foot 14/3 extension cords at a yard sale today... for a grand total of $3 (yes, $1.50 each). Same cords are $13.97 each at Lowes.

Hope you guys had better luck than i did

I'm not unhappy with today's haul, all this is from the first stop which was also a stop from last Sunday where the guy didn't have everything "tools" out as he was waiting for his brother to see what he wanted first...:

Long C craftsman Breaker and DBE, Plvmb extension, OLD Bonney brake tool, (hook is weird, so maybe for a particular car) and original PlierWrench (My second pair but with different jaws)
attachment.php

Vise Grips, the swivel tips are my first pair that size with those tips. (I have a drawer full of the plain tip version) the other small grips are dupes but you can never have too many clamping devices...
attachment.php

Craftsman V series Flex heat 1/2" drive :D and a Snappy look alike in 1/4" drive, "Vulcan", no COO... 3 identical 3/8 Blackhawk thumb drives, two BlackHawk wrenches,
attachment.php

Two double ended impact sockets, one Craftsman one no name, short screw starter, Air gauge (starts at 20 psi), OLD pair of inch/Metric vernier calipers, with what looks like hieroglyphics for a makers mark, general scale and wire/drill gauge, and another drill gauge with metric sizes marked on one side and Decimal equivalents on the other side, and a Channellock brand 5" crescent.

The next two stops (every other stop was a bust except for three oversize art clipboards I got for my kids for $5):

This place had some interesting stuff, but everything was pricey except for this tool role/ shown with a couple of wrenches for scale. the thing measures 24" top to bottom including the flap;

The seller at this last productive stop was drinking beer and half gassed, and demanding a lot of $$ to other people but he dug out this Vise from somewhere "over the fence in my shed" and told me to make an offer. I wound up offering five for the vise and the old wood clamp, and he was elated :dunno:

Trying to figure out if the dark Forrest Green was original.

"Estate/Tool" sale on the way home from work today (sigh, I love that). Lots of stuff, most of it beat to **** and worn out or Japan, etc. But the people were nice so I picked up a handful of stuff:
DSC00221.jpg

Snap On Spinner
Sockets they had were all Japan but I found three Cornwell, a couple Proto and some SK.
Some very nice fine Nicholson files
Two little NIB sharpening stones
Couple of metal scribes/etchers
An old pair of SO needle nose really good shape with one small tip broken - going to grind this even and use as side cuts
Bluepoint caliper and feeler guage

$5!:rocker:

Well, looking at these calipers closer, I discovered while it is inches on one scale, its in 128's of an inch! The main scale is in 16ths!

Even the Metric side is funky, it goes down to 1/20th of a MM and the main scale is numbered in Centimeters, divided into 10ths so ten MM?

I think I'll clean these up just to frustrate people when they ask to borrow a set of calipers!

This may be a yawner for most of you, but I'm excited! I've been enamored of Penncraft and Bernzomatic mechanics' tools since I bought them new to work on my first car in the early 70's. I went to a flea market today, one I go to fairly often. It's a commercial place with individual booths, so usually no garage sale prices, but now and then...

I spied the Penncraft toolbox, and was disappointed that it wasn't the kind with drawers, but the price was right at $1, even missing the tool tray. A few booths away I spotted a nearly identical box with tool tray and a few junk tools for $5. I snagged the tray, which fits perfectly, for $2. Then, to top it all off, rummaging in a tray of tiny wrenches marked 2/$1, hiding amongst the cheapie stamped ignition wrenches I found 4 small USA combos, including this Bernzomatic gem. There was also a Challenger-Proto long pattern 1/4".
I'd probably leave the toolbox as is, rust and all, except for the brown paint barfed all over the front. RustOleum makes a nice Hammered Finish paint that is an excellent match for the finish. I have some in Black that I used to paint a trailer hitch. It was a perfect match for the charcoal metallic bumper on my Escape. I'll have to see whether they make a dark gray; Black is too dark for the box.
What about rivets? If I repaint it, I'm going to remove the hardware and reinstall after painting. I don't want to use pop rivets or screws, but the only rivets I've found at the hardware store have a split shank, really intended for clinching on leather or wood. I'm sure I can make a peening tool to peen like the originals if I can find that type of rivet, with a hollow shank. Anyone have an idea where to look for them?
