I just bought these two items from Amazon and they have yet to arrive. Any opinions or thoughts on them? I originally had the choice of getting external torx sockets from Mac, GearWrench, Craftsman, Blue Point, or Koken. My car uses torx heads/bolts all over the place so I needed a set.

I got the Felo Smart Set because I needed a 1/4 ratchet and didn't have one, plus the T-Handle looks awesome. I have a really old Felo BDGM screwdriver from West Germany out of a Mercedes tool kit and thought it would be nice to have more stuff from the manufacture. The sockets seem like they are good quality and are flank drive.

A majority of my stuff is Craftsman from the early-mid 90's but I've done quite a bit of research and it seems that their quality has dropped in recent years. I also bought impact driving bits and they broke after one use. I plan on expanding my set with German tools since I am fascinated with the quality.

Thanks!

good: the box it all comes in, the t-handle feature is brilliant, the bit/socket/extensions seem fine, the handle is really nice, the price can be quite reasonable.

meh: the ratchet is a fairly coarse one, the sockets aren't a full set (which, of course, matters not if you don't need the missing sizes).

I originally bought the set for the ratchet, I like the handle on the ratchet and needed a 1/4. I have more sockets, not too worried about those. What do you mean by coarse? From what I've read it's a 72 tooth ratchet. I could be wrong... as I am fairly new to tools. You own this set?

I'm sure they will be just fine. The Facom 1/4" sets I have, have more selection in the box but don't have the t-handle option.

Ah, I didn't look into Facom. I was mainly looking at German brands... I saw the Felo set and thought it was a great deal so I jumped on it.

Since you already bought them what's the difference what others think? How about you wait until they arrive, use them, and then let US know what YOU think of them?

Maybe someone on the forum has the same exact set and can say if they have had issues... I will definitely let everyone know how I like them. I've only used 2 brands of ratchets... Craftsman and Snap On (not mine). So I'm not experienced in what good is... The Craftsman I own are not the greatest but they get jobs done. The Snap On ratchets have all been fine and smooth, not so rough like the Craftsman. I hope the Felo ratchet compares somewhat to the Snap On.

I have the E-torx. They are heyco, a very top quality brand. I would say Heyco is the German equivalent of what Craftsman used to be back in the V series days.

The E-Torx compare very favorably to my SO set. No, they are not as nice but they are as good as you can get for the $$$$. I love them.

What are the V series days? What differs on both sets? I could've paid 100 bucks and picked up a SO set off eBay.

Thanks guys you've all been helpful!

The Snap-on chrome is better. Kind of the main reason you buy Snap-on. I have no technical data to support my belief that the SO are better other than the chrome. I just like Snap-on and trust it. But, I like Heyco too. If I can't get Snap-on I am looking German.

The Craftsman V Series were made from 70's to 80's generally. I would say most regard this as the pinnacle of that brand for quality.

The ratchet doesn't look German. Felo is a great brand Specializing in the screwdrivers. All the other staff are re branded I suppose. This does not mean that the quality is not good but some may not be German made.

If the e-torx are from heyco as MrMark said you can be sure that they are top quality.

I have some screwdrivers from felo and I'm very satisfied so far. (I'm not a pro though).

There is a small reference about that set in the "old world" thread but i don't remember more about it.

If the price was good then do not be concerned.

I have this exact Felo set which I bought on Amazon for about $50. The T handle, extension, sockets and bits are all OK. Especially the T handle and bits, they are nice. The ratchet is serviceable but not great, fairly coarse in it's action. I bought snap on sockets on ebay to fill in the missing sizes. The plactic tray that the bits sit in is also very thin plastic not the best quality, and clamps really firmly onto the bits so that it's difficult to remove and reinsert them. The box itself is not bad. Overall, mainly due to the coarse nature of the ratchet, I'm giving this set a 3 out of 5 star rating.

Yeah, the Snap-On stuff is a bit out of my price range. I would have settled on a set of Hazet/Mercedes-Benz E-Torx if I could instead of the Snap-On. I might have a few V-series things in my collection. My 1/2 drive ratchet is a
-V- serial number.

Yeah, I guess I'll wait until it gets here... if anything I'll just buy a Wera Zyklop 1/4 ratchet or any other ratchets you guys can recommend. I don't have any high tooth ratchets in my collection and I'd like a few. From what I understood the Felo ratchet is a 72 tooth? Not sure, but I read a few places that it was.

Do the sockets wobble or fit loosely on the ratchet? And do you think the ratchet could take a beating? Oh and does it say where the sockets are made, manufacturer? The set would be perfect for oil changes/air filter changes and other small tasks for me, plus I don't have any T-Handles in my collection.

Thanks for the help guys!

I don't think that it is 72 tooth but this guy seems to be happy with it. (You can see the same ratchet re branded for lux tools).

Also the NY Old Guy said that the ratcheting is "fairly coarse".

I think only round head ratchets has 72 tooth in 1/4.

If you are not happy with it and you want to buy a German made or European ratchet take a visit to the old world thread.

The wiha sockets are made by hayco. Are very good quality.

With Hazet they are pretty much the same price as snap on. And some stuff is more expensive.

Felo the bits are made by felo which are very good one. The handle as well. Not quite sure about the socket.

Ok, Ok, I'll drag one out and see what it sez:

Sockets are marked: CR-V Stahl (chrome vanadium I imagine).

13,10,8,6,5.5,5,4 mm

Square to hex converter marked 'felo' (oddly enough).
Clever t-driver handle is marked 'Made in Germany'.

Ratchet is 30 something clicks, marked 'felo Germany' (not 'made in Germany' so take that for what it's worth). Also marked TUV GS Geprufte Sicherheit for some sort of safety business. This last required a microscope to see.

Plastic is thin compared to Wurth or Wera foam, but should hold up.

So after thinking about it, based on everyone who gave me insight here... I decided to cancel the Felo set since it hadn't shipped out yet. Since I pretty much needed a ratchet I decided to go with the Wera Zyklop. Thank you guys! :)

They are may favorite ratchet, they replace my proto big dawgs. They zyklop is a bit bigger head, for tight area, the protos are the ones I reach for or my craftsman max axes pass through.

Is there a difference between the 8000 and the 8100? Can't seem to tell. I bought the 8000 B SB, whatever that means?

Thanks!

The 8000 is the stand alone ratchet, the 8100 is a ratchet set. They are the same ratchet.

Shoturtle, I got my Wera Zyklop today and it didn't have a COO on it. Any idea why? It came in a plastic, square box... I love it so far. The swivel head is stiffer to move around than I thought.

Thank you for the help!

I wonder how much abuse these ratchets can handle... the sleeve looks like it could break if dropped... but then again the design seems durable.

Now that you have the zyklops you need to get the wera bit ratchet. I find myself using it just for the ratcheting action even though I have no need for a bit ratchet (clearance issues) at that time.

I'm going to be using these tools for my car... I don't think I'll be needing a bit ratchet. Sounds nice tho... I'm sure it's built nicely. :)

And thank you Shoturtle for the help!
