OK I picked up two more small vises again today, that's 4 this weekend.
These fit the

category well. The mini DP vise has a swiveling removable jaw to allow holding slightly tapered parts. Jaws are 1-1/2" wide and while its the same width as two of my small Palmgren DP vises, it's half the height and less than half the weight at a guess. It may be shop made but if so by a master craftsman. This thing has details I've never seen on a shop made vise. in fact both of these fit that category.
An example is the screw holding the bottom retention plate does that, plus it has a machined tip to engage the main screw *** to keep it in the dynamic jaw. one screw and all the parts are loose in your hand!
The other is really odd. Besides resembling a post vise in shape somewhat (but no other post vise features...) It has
three alignment slide pins to keep the jaws parallel, but those are about the only parallel surfaces there are! This also does not fit the usual fit/finish of a shop made vise. if it was its was made by a master gunsmith IMO, as EVERYTHING about this vise smacks gun. The metal feels like gun metal, its hard like gun metal, and has that finish/patina of an old gun also. The holes in the 2" jaws for the main screw are in and out of non perpendicular surfaces, as are all three alignment slide pins.
Then it has the 4 pin holes in each jaw top. about 1/8" dia and 3/8" deep or so. I originally was thinking forming pins for bending small bits of metal of wire but Now I'm leaning strongly to pins to hold irregular parts; like gun parts?
That main screw handle is odd also; its a pressed in pin, and someone managed to bend it, probably by using the box end wrench extension trick...
EDIT: BTW, I can find NO mechanism for how the main screw is captivated in the static jaw...
Neat additions to the collection, but VERY odd.
