Found this old Sheldon Woodworkers Vise. Since I like Vise and like to woodwork I thought this would be a nice restoration project. It will go well with my Tucker Vise and Taiwanese Emmert Vise.

This is my first post on GJ. It was this thread, that got me hooked -- I actually read all 297 pages on this vise thread. My grandfather had a YORK vise, I have a cheap made in China 4" vise (Yard sale $5), a Worth 2" vise (Made in USA), and last weekend picked up a tiny 1" aluminum vise (no markings) at a yard sale for $2. I'm really looking for a big 6" or 8" Antique vise...the search continues.

Traded my 4" China and a pair of drill press vises (which I never used in eight years of ownership) for a 3" American Scale and a 2" US made no name + $30. Plan on stripping them both, removing all rust, and selling them. My dad gave me the MW 4", so I'm keeping that. Still looking for a baby Wilton, though.

The American Scale has an interesting swivel lock (correct term?), but it only has one. The other is missing.

Thanks Outlaw ! I'll try posting some pictures of the vises (such as they are), and any new ones that come my way.

One of my friends has an old Wilton on his welding table... The thing is just covered in metal dust from grinding, has welding spatter on it, and is all beat to hell... I'm almost to the breaking point where I'm just going to nab it one day and restore it without telling him... It's driving me nuts seeing it in the shape it is!!! :willy_nil

I saw one of these come up for the first time ever in my area, called not 20 minutes after it was posted and I was #3 in line if the first 2 didn't come up with the cash. Finding vises and most anything "heavy metal" in my area tends to **** or prices are insane.

What do you all reckon these are worth? This place is just a short drive away.

http://www.westauction.com/auction/798/item/48134

If you check other auctions they have a bunch of Wilton and Columbian vises up there?

Mmmm... Seems like wood vises are much more common... To me I probably would of stopped @ $20 each... I'm sure there is a buyers premium + tax with that auction...

However, that Big Reed Vise looks like a keeper... I think it says 104-1/2??? It's got some hacksaw cuts on the slide :( but otherwise looks good... My buddy would love that 10" Buffer for his shop... Make parts nice and shiny... :)

Glacial - Grats on the Mother of all the later model Parkers!!
Yours is from the "Superior Line" of Parker vises and came from the old Model 249X. The Superior Line was the heavy weight line of Parker and gave way to the newer "Eclipse Line" which size for size weighed much less. Your model weighs probably 15 to 20 pounds heavier than an Eclipse vise. As to age.....the crazy "X" numbers phased out in the early 20's....yours was in catalogs by 1925 and went away by 1940 or so. Treat it nice since it will be in attendance at your funeral and still working strongly.

What... your other vises not good enough to straighten out the handle on that Wilton??? :lol_hitti

I was wondering why the wind was blowing an odd direction today... Oh yeah that's right because of all the suckage you are creating on your side of town!!! :lol_hitti Just keep rubbing it in.... Go ahead, pour some more salt on the wound... Twist the dagger in the back some more...

Honestly, I think it's great you are getting all these good finds... Congrats man.

Yeah... Category 5 suckage hurricane hit Pasadena today lol... Nah man, idk if you remember but I got this one a while back when I got a new workbench. Started working on it last night and finished it today... I replaced the swivel base tightening bolts with some 1/2-13 flange nuts. Just a little modification I wanted to do. Figured I'd leave the handle alone... Gives it character! Plus, I want the vise to remember it came from the ghetto if it tries to runaway one day bwahahaha:lol:

I have a completely unimpressive and relatively small vice but its worked well for me so far. It was on my father's workbench when I was a toddler and he recently gave it to me. I'm not sure where he got it initially.

Here is my latest resto on a Wilton C1. I usually don't get much trouble from these things but this particular vise had me tearing my freaking hair out at every turn.

It didn't look too rusty but every single threaded part on this thing resisted PB Blaster/Kroil, Electrolysis, Torches, Impact Drivers and a slew of swear words that would make a trucker blush.

All of it has been replaced with fresh hardware and it came out looking pretty nice considering how much i hate this thing and want to throw it off a cliff:D

I was at an auction today when this bad-boy sold for $135 (+ 10% and tax). It's 8" - I don't konw the brand. The screw-cap is bigger than a baseball! It took four guys to load it into the truck.

I'm ashamed to admit I COMPLETELY missed this in the auction preview and wasn't even in the room when it sold!

Not really a new vise, but I did get some NOS Copper Wilton Jaw Covers... Found them on eBay for $25 shipped... Had to cut them down to fit. Also I took my time shaping them so they fit snug but I can still get them off relatively easy. :willy_nil

This is on cl. Anyone know what it is? 4 1/2 inch jaws

That's a Hollands Keystone vise. They were marketed towards mechanics and shops as the medium priced line between the machinists line and there lowest priced Penn vises.

Thought that I was an "early bird" at a yard sale today (around 7:00 AM) -- there was an older gentleman getting rid of some decent "Made in USA" tools -- probably a lifetime's worth. I asked about a shop vise -- he said that he had *just* sold a large 6" Rigid vise. Very frustrating, however he did sell me a nice old-school battery charger, so today I'm starting my adventure into Electrolytic-Rust-Removal.

That's a great vise! I wonder who made it? I've never seen one with the ribbing on the side like that.

Its been on CL for over 2 months. I think there was some jaw mounting modification done on that old girl!

This is one for the journal. The side lettering is especially nice and raised. This old timer also is in excellent condition. 4 1/4" jaws. it all about timing.

My Starrett that I finished today. Swivel base was damaged so I had to make it a stationary vise.
