Not a great lunch, one estate sale and got two 3/8 craftsman extensions and a 3/8 and 1/2 craftsman universal for $8. Most of the stuff in the toolbox was still there by the time I got there, but everything had two grinder marks for owner's marks.

I'll second the 'you ****'!

Pity they left the top open on the Huot, letting the tray get nasty, but I guess that's why the lid is in such good shape. (on second look, it's mostly dusty. I bet that little bit of rust polishes right off.)

Nice scores.

I'm hoping to get out this weekend, but if I don't, I've got piles from my last big day still to go thru.

Good hunting to everyone this weekend!

zuk

It is dust, it looks like someone left the lid open in a dust storm on the Iron Range. Does anyone have an estimate of the age of the Craftsman box?

After a long dry spell, I finally hit an excellent sale this morning. Hout toolbox, $10.00, a Kennedy and a Walton Products box and a craftsman that looks like the day it sold in the store for $2.00. Plus a Snap-on KR-229 (I think) with eight Snap-on universals for $8.00.

A knife set for $5.00, plus other assorted Thorson, New Britain, Proto and SK stuff for a grand total of $54.50.

Amazing deal. Ive got that Kennedy cantilever, its a cool box.
You ****!

Today's small score. The Prentiss Bulldog was $3, Festool DA (free pile, bad switch), Gast compressor $5 and SK Ratchet $2.

Things seem to be winding down for the season around here garage sales wise. Estate Sales are still going strong though. Unfortunately most of the good Estate Sales this year seemed to be too far of a drive what with gas @ $4/gal.

Some of the pick-ups from last weekend and today, all from some pretty slim pickings.

Vulcan 1/2" Breaker
K-D 1/2" Breaker
Easco 1/2" Breaker
Indestro 3/8" ratchet

Some of you on here know i've taken a break from estate sales since my knee has been acting up and the sales have been complete junk lately.

Yesterday was the first time in 2 weeks i was able to check one out after work and actually did pretty good for what i spent.

The pipe wrench is pretty old but i'm not 100% sure of the date. The crescent wrench is near mint. The sockets were a mix of Craftsman V, BE and Circle H. The ratchet has an oil hole port at the top.

The knife has local advertising etched on the blade and i can never pass up any kind of architectural salvage items when i find them.

The transfer calipers are Starrett and the vise grips have dates from the 1940s on them.

Not too bad for my first time back out in a while.:bounce:

I picked up a Vulcan Flex head ratchet recently, and my research indicates Vulcan was a Williams attempt at making up a truck brand to compete with SO/MAC et. al... Nice find!

Outlawmws,
Thanks, I believe you are correct on the Williams/Vulcan relationship. In my area I find a TON of Williams stuff what with the factory having been like 30 minutes down the road and not to mention all the oldtimers who had access to them at all the plants there were around at one time. I am increasingly finding Vulcan stuff but still not very common. I always plead ignorance to sellers about Vulcan, no need for them to know it is really Williams stuff :)

WNYflyer,

Great score on the Easco wrenches and ratchet. I have a 1/4" Easco RHFT ratchet and it is one of my favorites!

Thanks odelay01,

I swear the Easco wrenches are essentially the same as some Craftsman raised panels that I have. Perhaps Easco designs have been passed down over the years to whoever currently makes the Craftsman Raised panels ? Danahar/Apex?

In 1946 Moore Drop Forge was the "original" V series RP, >> Easco (68) >> Danahar (73) and the start of the VV series, but the V series also continued for some time (86).

Nice Easco wrenches.

I have a Easco breaker bar myself. The head is a little loose. The ball is still there but doesn't do much good. Any way to fix it?

I rolled up on an estate sale today as someone was loading a kennedy krinkle finish machinist chest and what looked like a 2 drawer mid-cabinet into his car.

This was at 12:15 and the sale started at 10:00. Makes me wish I had taken lunch a little earlier.

Other than the standard workshop junk the place was picked over.

Oh well - it was nice to get out of the office for an hour.

Which ball? The detent for the drive swivel, or socket? In any case get some carb cleaner or like in behind the ball (depress it some), soak it, and get the goop behind there dissolved and rinsed out. is that doesn't get it freed up if its the detent for the drive, get the drive head out and see if the spring is broken.

So its not a thin I paid $$ for,but it definitely is a tool! :D

60's era Craftsman T-Saw, 10" and in all important features, the same as my 50's Craftsman T Saw. Table size, fence etc. is the same.

My old saw is on an oversized stand, and it has an 8" Homelite (delta) bolted to its side as a table extension and the 10" always has a blade in it, and the 8" has a dado in it...

The trouble with the setup is the 8" table is shorter lengthwise, and I can't use the same fence...

I'll be removing the 8" and replacing it with this 10" and THEN it will be one bi std table and with both of the fence rails, I can use one fence for the entire width!

Why was it free? "It needs a motor, and I'm done with all my work at this house so I want the space..." :rocker:

Now the motor is plugged into a switched "extension cord" so I did the obvious; I bypassed the switch! and the motor runs flawlessly! so I'll look the switch over and see if it is repairable, but only for use on something else, as I already have a switch box for both saws, on my current stand...

Then I'll sell off the old 8" for whatever I can get for it... :D

bigcaddy that is definitely one of the older Ridgid wrenches, because the hook jaw is flat at the bottom.

I noticed that right away but had no idea when in time it was made. Do you have any way to place different features to different time periods.

I know the new wrenches have a flared end, at the hanger hole. This wrench has a taper and is much slimmer.

Last Weekend I picked up an Indestro hex drive ratchet. The old guy didn't have the sockets any more.

attachment.php

Today I stumbled across this mostly complete set of New Britain hex drive sockets. I didn't see the New Britain tab till I got home.

attachment.php

They are compatible and the ratchet fits into the holder fairly well.

attachment.php

I'm just gonna clean out the spiders and wipe the dust off and use them when the whim strikes me.

I've got $3.00 into the set at this point.

Cheers

Jim

I don't know. I suspect it is some sort of military box because of the style and the faint markings on mine. I can find no makers mark, but it sure resembles the boxes ammo came in, except for the handle.

My has a cork lining on the bottom and it's a well made sturdy box.

It's not an Ammo box but they used that style clamp on a lot of boxes for portable electronics for many decades.

A good day, but only three stops had anything worthwhile! (other than I did get two sockets for 50c at one other; one SK one Proto)

Stop one was the big one:

Two carry boxes (Well one was an old 40’s metal tackle box…) semi-full of tools and almost all were good ones. Here are the boxes; Contents pending:

attachment.php

Second good stop had a few tools and an interesting small box, with some Stiletto inlaid bench snips, and what I think is my first Plumb screwdriver (if I have any others, it will be with wood handles…) An interesting flat plumb bob, Near new Vaughan claw hammer head, a small old “brownie” clamp, some really old Barcalo pliers, and three fine detail tools for leather. The tiny envelope has more of the tips for the tooling tools. All went into the (empty) box for a total.

Also not shown was an old (Antique?) V hoe, light duty, not kid sized, but not fullsized. that is going with my similar small spade and small maybe 8" wide iron rake), and from a free pile, an old iron (not tin) ash shovel.

A stop later in the day while on an errand, got me a Roper Whitney DA-5 Aluminum rivet set, (air craft use I believe; retails for $499!! ) and two govt’ issue body hammer, (both have ABC cast in, one handle is marked US Govt. and one head has USN scribed on the edge of a hammer face)

Next two posts for the first stop’s Tools from those boxes:

Part 3 and the last of the two first boxes:

Cornwell Extension and universal, Wright Ratchet,(I think this is my first soft handle rat of any brand), Duro DBE and Indestro small combo.
attachment.php

10 and 6” Vise Grips
attachment.php

Pexto Gas Pliers, P&C combo, Bridgeport screwdrivers; the small one is marked PG&E, and a KD tools 2776 GM carb adjusting tool. The other are no-name, older tools probably US made…
attachment.php

And some misc. drivers, Irwin Xcelite etc, a Square D voltage tester (with totally rotten test leads..) and a Stanley 1220 dual drive hand drill with the wood cap on the handle for drill bit storage.
attachment.php

There was maybe a half dozen import/Globe master quality tools that will just go away…
