Why do spark plug sockets have hex ends on them?

Why? I've never understood. What is the reason for the 6 pt hex on the bottom of the spark plug sockets? All of mine are like that.

Apparently you don't have a 4th gen Camaro or Firebird or you would be well versed in the uses of hex-end plug sockets.

so you can use a wrench to clear your aftermarket headers that wont allow you to use a ratchet or extension.

I actually had to shave the front of a spark plug socket down so that it would fit inside of the handle on a blower (it use a short plug) and then an open end wrench.

I use them a lot for shock top mounts, as the bore inside allows a socket tosit inside to counter hold the piston/rod.

Ha. Chevy owners, ***** to be you! Not a problem with the Pontiac v-8. Then again, their header/manifold bolts face downward and are a bear to get to instead :lol_hitti
Hey bozo, we're talking about the LS1 that was in both chevys and pontiacs

I was talking about accessing the plugs on an old 327 or 350 in a Chevelle or Camaro with ****** headers. You gotta use a wrench on your plug socket for those.
