I just purchased a motive brake bleeder and 2 adapters caps...one Ford and one GM. Thinking about making a plate adapter for my Jeep. Couple of questions.

1) Has anyone made their own adapters?

2) What did you make and what materials?

3) For the plate adapter, I will need a sheet of rubber for a gasket. Any recommendations on where to get something like that?

Looking to make something similar to this:

Wow, didn't realize jeeps had such an unusual brake fluid reservoir.

For the gasket material look on mcmaster. They should have it and you likely can get a 12x12 piece or so.

1) Yes.

2) Wood - oak.

3) bike tire innertube.

Innertube is a good idea. wonder if i can find one about 4" wide when cut. Would you by chance have a picture?

I scored myself a 3/8" think of aluminum. Plan on tapping 2 npt holes fittings then using hose to connect it all.

It is from a '92 jeep so it has the style that were on older American cars.

No, sorry. It didn't work very well so I only used it once (see, you didn't ask the fourth question! :lol_hitti)

I ran the piece of oak through the planer to make it flat. Drilled three holes - one for the brake fluid tube, two for some hold-down screws. I used a small piece of chain, some screw eyes and thumb screws to clamp it to the reservoir/master cylinder. I couldn't apply more than 3-5 psi without it leaking. The chain/thumbnail setup just couldn't apply enough clamping force.

There wasn't enough pressure to get a decent bleed - a normal Motive bleed. Next time around I switched to Speed Bleeders:

Ha Ha. I got that same 6x6" sheet rubber from the plumbing dept at home depot. I am almost done with my adapter. Need to glue the gasket on and rig up tubing. Should have some pictures of it later.

Well here is the final product. Worked. I had it up to 10psi and would hold most pressure. Maybe leaked a few PSI every 5 mins which is good enough for this. If i can find some different gasket material, with a clamp it worked.

Jeeper, that is sweet. I ordered two pieces of Polycarbonate Sheets 4 1/2 x 6 1/2"- 1/4 thickness. Drilled one hole to fit a 1/2 barbed hose end (same as air compressor fittings). The matching hole was bigger to allow for the hex shoulders of the fitting. They were stacked and glued with acrylic cement. Corners were sanded smooth. Rubber sheet applied to the business side with the same cement. I used 4-5 feet of 1/4" surgical tubing to hold it to the master cylinder. The ployC is impervious to the brake fluid. The surgical tubing hols it fast, but is a PITA to wrap in tight quarters. I think I'll try clamping as you did.

The poly is easy to glue, and drill and won't bend in 1/2" thickness.
