I grew up in CA (Santa Barbara and later in San Jose) and my cousin actually taught me how to drive stick in his 914. Hence, I've ALWAYS wanted one.
I've had the Orange one for about 20 years now. I've done everything you can possibly imagine to it. Rebuilt engine and ******, although 1st is grinding a bit now. You'll notice that I did a 5-lug swap so I could run 911 Fuchs. Every single part has been rebuilt at some point along the way. I even back dated the exhaust on both cars to a 74' so that I could run stainless steel heat exchangers and Bursh exhausts (love the sound and the added heat).
I've only had the black one for about 3 years now (found locally through ebay). Told the wife I'd turn it around and sell it but now I'm too attached to it.
Both are extremely reliable and have their own distinct driving feel. They're also always ready to go with Optima red tops always plugged in to CTEK chargers. My Orange one rides on Bilsteins, with sticky Yok's, all leather interior, and plush Lloyd mats, with a 400 watt Alpine/Rockford set up (and still requires that I change the points every 3K miles). My black one has a rebuilt engine/******, sticky Yok's, rides on Koni's, has front/rear bars, heavy duty springs, electronic ignition, but has the original push button radio that came from the factory. I'm seriously considering doing a 5 lug swap on it too.
