Need opinions on socket lot price (updated with pics)

I have a guy who is interested in selling a large lot of sockets.
It is about 75 1/2 and 3/8 drive snapon, matco, mac, cornwell both impact and non. Plus 25 or so 1/4 inch. Probably 1/5 are swivel sockets.

Does is sound like it would be worth $200 to you guys?
This is the 1/2 and 3/8:

Could be worth $200... lots of swivels. Have you seen them in person? What condition are the sockets really in?

Aw screw it... offer him $150 and see what happens...

If the situation is as you described it and everything is Snappy, Cornwell or Matco that is one heck of a buy, just the impact swivels alone would be a steal at that price IMHO but for a lot price of those brands, a real deal.

Truck prices for impact swivels are insane high!

Let's see, 100 tool truck brand sockets at less than $2 a piece sounds like a good deal. However, let's look closer at the sizes. How many sizes are duplicates? How many are odd sizes you would never use? Do you have a friendly dealer easily available to warranty the broken ones? Are you looking to expand your tool empire or make some money reselling them? I'm with the other guys in offering $100-125 and go no higher than $150 if I could use the sockets.

I'm going to be the odd man out and recommend against large lots of tools unless you're standing right there and are able to inspect each tool closely.

I'm with Merkava on this one. Apart from that, unless they're specialist sockets i wouldn't buy a lot like this. They're all odd sockets, all odd set and all different manufacturers. Personally, i like my matching sets.

I either buy the sockets one at a time or six to twelve at a time in matched sets. These scattered and jumbled up socket auctions I immediately scroll pass when I'm browsing eBay.

If these were to be for my professional work place, i would prefer sets, but for now at home, i dont think i will mind mixed sets as i wont lose them and i wouldnt mind finding ones to fill in sets.

I have actually been buying tool chests at garage sales with tools (craftsman) and putting together sets of sockets and wrenches and selling them to friends. So i think for 1.50 or less a socket depending on how many 1/4 stuff there is i cant pass it up and i will just think of this as doing the same, just for myself.

He also said in the last email that it was not all of the bigger sockets and he is going to get me a picture with everything that would be included. Will update tomorrow as soon as pictures are recieved. Im thinking probably between 125 and 150 sockets now by the sounds of it.

wrenchr I'm with you. I love the treasure hunt aspect. Plus actually having that weird socket that the trucks no longer carry comes in handy.

I buy all the mixed lots I can if the price is right. Keep what I need, eBay the rest. Always end up making money and getting free tools.

I've found that the larger the lot it usually translates to a much cheaper avg price per tool; especially when the lot (being truck brand tools) is over $200. I'm with Wrencher... go for it!

Yeah... he's right. Offer him $175. See what happens. Either way - even if you pay $225, you are still doing very well.

I gotta go along w/ Merkava, Moose, and a few others - unless you can look them over, ascertain if there are at least some mostly complete "sets" (size-wise, not brand-wise), determine the condition, etc., $200 is IMHO way steep for a boxlot of misc sockets (even a 100+, remember there's a bunch of 1/4's in there too). Are they mostly metric, SAE, or a mix? Is he guaranteeing they're all top grade USA, or just "mostly"? You also need to figure in shipping to the total cost. The price/piece starts going down as the lot size increases. A dollar or two/socket for a few in real nice shape is one thing....

If you're determined to get them, then if nothing else at least find out if there's a mostly complete set of impact swivels, that could impact (pun intended) the final value somewhat.

There is 75-100 not including the 1/4s. All impacts, All top brands. Not completely sure on sizes yet as he is emailing me list and pictures, But it looks to be very assorted. Shipping will probably be included in price. We will see what he says tomorrow i guess.

I've had good luck buying mixed lots on ebay. Only time I was irritated was when I bought a bunch of Easco swivels and there were 5 of lots of the sizes.

So I broke em up and relisted sets of them. Made my money back and got to keep one set for myself.

I suggest you buy them, but if you don't buy them would you send me his email address?
I don't have any problem buying sockets by the lot. Good money to be made there, not to mention what you can put in your own toolbox to use.

I didnt get a list, but judging by the pictures and the fact that he said he has more he has to get outta bags, Im jumping on it. The bag on the right consists of 1/4 which includes more swivels

Here are some of my pictures of the sockets:

Definitly worth it IMO, going to trade/sell some a lot of them to fill in some areas of the almost complete sets here which included a snap on 1/4 swivel non impact set missing only a few of the 11. I will piece them together and will have a lot to sell and make most of my money back on.

And then i had a question on this ratchet:
How loose should the flex me on this. it seems really loose and the head moves a ton on the pin as well:

Thanks in advance for any input, will be listing a lot of these in the classified section before any go on the bay.

the 1/4s were 6 pt except for 1 10mm. Keeping the 6 pts, but would get rid of the 10mm if needed.
