i am looking for a tool set for my motorcycle roll around tool box (a man can never has too many tools ...hmmm), so, i am looking to buy a decent set, not too expensive, metric and standard, i was doing some research and end up up at the beginning of the circle over and over again......first i was focused on C-man (which is ruled out for quality issues over the last 2 / 3 yrs....), i have older C-man tools which are great (USA made) gearwrench (sockets and ratchets), powerbuilt (ratchets), Knipex, Vise Grip, Channellock (pliers), Proto, Vessel, Wera (screwdrivers), powerbuilt, gearwrench, C-man (wrenches).

Now i am shopping around for a tool set (wrenches, sockets and ratchets).

I am down to:

Kobalt, ATD, Powerbuilt, toptul, JH Williams and Gearwrench which are decent quality i believe.

When i did my research and looked at the tools, most of the ratchets look like they come out of the same die. The chrome looks the same to me.

Please give me some input on your experience with ratchets, sockets and wrenches in the lower / middle price range (with pliers / screwdrivers i am stuck on wera and Knipex / NWS)

well, thanks for the advice, but the tools don't go on the bike, they go in my "bike tool box" but a question there for you: is the C-man industrial different to the "normal" C-man tools?

I know the "professional" Craftsman line is.

That williams stuff is nice. Same as Blue Point, I think. Probably better than c man, but not made in usa, which is usually a deal killer for me.

I have some Toptul. Good wrenches but no place to warranty them.
I would go with Kobalt.

It depends. The Craftsman Industrial stamped sockets are the same as regular Craftsman. The Craftsman Industrial wrenches come in two forms, a polished and raised panel design. The RP design is the same as the regular Craftsman wrenches. The polished wrenches are the same as the "old" USA made Craftsman Professional.

I really like my Gearwrench and even Kobalt stuff. They feel very stout in your hands...and I have had no quality issues out of them. I've been doing some pretty hard wrenching on the frame and suspension of my truck lately (smallest bolt was 3/4), and they've laughed at everything I've thrown at them so far. The price can't be beat either IMO for what they are worth...

I've been using the Gearwrench (non ratcheting) combo wrenches for over a year,working on big trucks and equipment.No issues at all,and the price was pretty good.

o.k. so C-man is back in the boat then for wrenches, socket set i think i am going with Gearwrench or Kobalt.

Thanks for the clarification, i am going to head to the sears outlet center here in the area probably tomorrow after work, i am curious what they have in stock there.

Some Williams is made in USA and some isn't. The catalog will tell you which is which.

A quick way to tell is that the Taiwan stuff's part numbers is only numbers. The USA stuff is a mix of letters and numbers.
