I was on a 2200 mile road trip in a '65 Buick Riviera last week and had the opportunity to check out lots of small time shop spaces in the process. In doing so, I ran acr...

Re: Vintage Batter Chargers

I remember those! A great old charger. Lou's Garage didn't have one but DuCharme's, a few miles South on Route 9W, did. My dad (the "Lou" in Lou's Garage) and "Buddy" DuCharme were friendly competitors and helped each other out a lot. Mrs. DuCharme was my 3rd grade teacher. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane.

Here is mine...working on fixing the plexi-cover that covers the top. I just love the personality they have.

Re: Vintage Batter Chargers

I've been on the lookout for a vintage one for some time now, they're not easy to come by. The one I have is over 20 years old, but nowhere as stylish as the ones from the mid-sixties and back.

Persiflage, your battery charger is one beautiful looking unit! Anymore photos of it?

Thank you, I really love it. I will take some pictures tonight and upload them. This was one I could get my hands on from my office.

I still have a battery charger that my Dad used. Nilsen is the brand name. I can not find anything about them on the net. I found it needed a fuse a few years ago and I am still using it today as a trickle charger. Modern technology these days it is better to use the newer battery style tenders but this old Nilsen still works.

Here's mine. It's a vintage Sun, with modern rectifiers. I've had it for over 20 years... dragged it out of a dumpster, replaced the degraded rectifiers and used the hell out of it.

Also pictured is a Heyer that I gave to a friend. This one is all original, inside and out.

Reminds me of a neighbor who last week found his Corvette on fire because he left an OLD charger on it for 2 weeks! Can't imagine how many times old batteries burst, leaked, boiled over due to overcharging!

.i passed-up a vintage batt charger because the seller said this one dipstick needs to dip into the battery fluid or it won't work.. i think it still had a negative clamp.
he charged semi truck batteries.
what's up with having that dipstick?

I enjoyed reading this thread. It'd be cool to find one of these old battery chargers and restore it for use in my garage. I guess I'll start keeping an eye out for one. Thanks for sharing.

Here's an old one of mine. Not as cool looking as the newer ones. This is probably from the late teens or early 20s. I've had it for a long time and I'd like to sell or trade it.

That Jordan NuWay is fantastic.

Just picked up an Atlas charging station like this one - stands over 5' tall and will hold maybe 6 batteries. Its rough so I'm thinking of repainting and making it look functional, but hiding a couple battery tenders inside and charging batt's on the rack.

I've always got spares in the garage for the trailer, winch, project cars, etc so the rack itself is pretty handy.

Re: Vintage Batter Chargers

I have an old Marquette. I got it about 25 years ago. It was being thrown out by a county school bus shop. I'd guess it is at least 40 years old or older. Works great.

I had to give this up because I could not drag it cross-country but it worked great.

Well they look vintage but I got them ebay so who knows. The charger is very heavy for its size and the load tester will brand you if you are not on your toes.

This battery charger still works even though I don't use it. It is still in the original building it was in when it was bought brand new.
