The spring was the ratchet sell off. Guys on here were going crazy getting the GW and wanting to swap the matco 88 kit into them.

So what is the skinny on these? I see many people on here saying they are trash, but depending on who you ask all my Craftsman stuff is trash too...

Is Gearwrench all over seas now? Any of those items stick out?

Gear wrench as far as I know has always been overseas. They started in Taiwan and later China. I have both and while you can feel a bit of difference between the two mechanisms....I've never had an issue with either. I couldn't imagine wrenching without my gear wrench stuff.

If they actually live to 140 ft/lbs before failing, I can live with that.

They are both overseas now. But they work. People on here like to label them **** because they are from Asia. But most of the ratcheting wrenches sold comes from Asia. And are good quality.

It is a excellent price for what you get. And they work just fine, if one pc is not just bring them into sears for an warranty exchange.

Not USA.

GearWrench's China IMO is about the best China I've ever seen, it's very close to the quality of Kobalt Taiwan for example. QA on the China products is not good on the sets I've bought - one set had a busted ratchet (pass thru) and one had two misformed sockets, but the quality on what came was great and they've held up well.

GW is some good stuff for the price.

I've had a few of their ratcheting wrenches freeze up on me. I've always been able to free them up.... but it surely doesn't instill a lot of confidence. I put a few drops of marvel oil in them now so hopefully that helps. Other than that I've been happy with them.

I have also had a few freeze up on me over the years, but IMO it was my fault for breaking nuts and bolts loose with them. That is the only time they seized. That said, my local Sears has swapped them out for new in store, no questions asked. YMMV though.

Picked up a few sets today. After I cleaned off all the boogers and McDonalds grease covering them from all the shoppers who fingered them, I have to say the finish really reminds me of a cheap tool. Which I suppose this is and I certainly got it at a cheap price, I suspect they will do there duty fine and at least I won't feel so bad about beating them up.

I grabbed a set of roto ratchets and the ratcheting screwdriver set. I have been impressed with my Gearwrench wrenches, so I expect the quality on these items to be good as well. We'll see when they arrive!

Thanks OP!

According to the Sears ad the prices would expire on Tuesday, I posted on here and ordered online to be sure I got the price. However well after midnight The prices were still the same so I deleted my post.

Tons of Gearwrench stuff on sale at Sears: http://slickdeals.net/f/5310778-Gearwrench-50-off-sale?

Can't have too many of these.

Thanks for the thread/tips. I ordered online for store p/U on Tuesday and got metric and SAE sets of stubby ratchet wrenches for 34 bucks each. They were from the back p/u area at Sears and were covered with fingerprints and "McDonald's goo" but cleaned up and look pretty good. Thanks.

20 piece ratcheting set is on for 44 bucks!!!

It looks like that is the only item left. Everything else is sold out or back to regular price. I would have been all over the roto ratchets. Maybe next time.

I've scored some amazing deals this year so I can't complain too much.

Question for you guys a little more familiar with GW.

Back when Sears was selling the 7 pc flex SAE set for $19.99, I picked it up along with the metric set for $29.99. Fast forward to this weekend and I decided to pick up the 32 pc set and another metric flex set for a gift. I didn't look at the specs on the set as I assumed it would be the same as the earlier set I bought but it wasn't.

The first set I bought includes 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 17mm, 19mm - this one has the Danaher info on the back.

The other set has 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 17mm - this one has Apex on the back.

Besides the lack of 19mm wrench in the second set, would there be any diff in quality between the two?

Look at the part numbers, they are two different part numbers. I bet one is full polish and the other is not. Also, look at the details for where they are made. I would suspect one is china and one is taiwan.

Both are china and both are full polish. The Apex set says GW Flex Head while the other set just says GW. I want to try exchanging the set I just bought for another one like the first w/ the 19mm.

I just wanted to make sure there wasn't any major differences between Danaher or Apex label tools.
