I outgrew my 65'x36' shop and 50'x48' pole barn

I built a hobby shop and open pole barn 9 moths ago. I wanted more space but thought that with today's economy, anything you build probably is worth less than you invested once you are finished.

Well, I have moved most of my stuff in the shop and have run out of room, plus I wanted to keep the wood working part isolated from the metal shop side so I decided to add to both buildings, keeping the once exterior wall of the enclosed building as a partition wall. The additions are 20' by the depth of the buildings.

Wow! You've got some serious shop & storage facilities there! I can pretty well see in the photos what the open shed is used for, but what do you do in the enclosed building?

I am gonna remember this idea. Building a "base" pole barn and expanding it each season with the partitions for different uses seems like a pretty good way to go if you've got plenty of room, but the funds only come in stages.

I'm guessing you were able to reuse much of the siding, true?

Is your original build on a different thread somewhere?

I don't have the build chronicled, but if there's interest I can post a few pictures of the build and the shop interior.
I needed room in my basement garage at home, thus the purpose for the enclosed building. From the initial mainly storage idea, it's turning into a metal fab shop with a system 1 Mohawk lift, tools, shelving, lighting, all done by me since I'm semi retired for now.

The wainscot siding was moved to the new outside wall and replaced with a solid sheet metal color for the partition wall.

I owned a kitchen cabinet manufacturing company that I grew from the back yard, to a high of 170 employees. Due to the economy I closed it down. I really don't plan to have a set shop but more of a place I can use a few woodworking tools without getting the automotive, metal shop full of sawdust.

I will bet after managing 170 people, your are enjoying a little more free time to be engaged in projects you want to do.

My shop space is pretty small in comparison to what you have going. Trying to keep the dust out of the garage area is a bit of a challenge, but making some improvements to dust collection devises with each project tackled. Hope to be fully involved with my kitchen/bath cabs this winter.

It's a Steiner/Ventrac Mower, I use it for rough mowing as well as a finish mower on the steep side of the hill my house sits on. there are many attachments for it as well as it sits close to the ground.

Well, after checking out the roll up door installation, I found that the concrete guy had not pitched the concrete under the door wide enough. I removed the track and ground a groove as needed to get a good door seal.

I then began to install backing, alarm wiring, 3/4" plywood and a 20 amp outlet circuit with the outlets centered at 52" in order to clear 4' sheets of metal, or plywood if laid in front of the outlets.

I will be installing 27' of pallet rack 42" in depth, 30" from the wall, for storage on this
side. I like to have outlets throughout in case.

I got my wife to help. next I will be removing the outlet covers and will paint the walls with a solid stain as is the rest of the shop.

The steep hill is on two sides of the house parcel and behind the shop. I've cleared trails to do some hiking and to get through the woods.

I am hoping to move most of the stuff I have in the way on the other side of the building, in order to take and post some pictures.

The photographer had a studio built to accept even a full sized truck, he asked me if he could take pictures of the truck and wife to build up his portfolio, she agreed.

Well, since you were nice enough to let him 'borrow' both the truck and your lovely wife for the photo shoot, I hope he was grateful enough to present you with a LARGE print to hang in the shop. Looks like he did some excellent work!

Actually we were invited to his business's open house and were given a 12x20" print of my wife with some racing tires and one of the black truck.

I ran the wires for the new addition through an existing 3/4" metal conduit that runs from the breaker panel to what is now the partition wall. Now on to painting the plywood panels.

A little more progress. I finished the electrical work as far as outlets and alarm goes, stained the walls and started to put the unwanted items that I had from the shop next door.

Now I'm moving a row of pallet racks from the shop to what will be the overflow, wood shop. This will allow me to finish setting up the shop.

with a rubber mallet instead of a steel hammer to prevent damage to the coating.
