I won the 75 piece set as well. The locking flex head is very nice. However, I often lean towards regular all metal ratchets more, since they just feel more substantial.

The mini ratcheting screwdriver set is super nice.

Thanks for posting the deal! Are all the sockets vortex (pass thru)? Or just the bigger sizes? I cant tell from the product descriptions. It looks like someone just copied and pasted the product description from the 75 pc set into the 49 piece set.

There's a 15% off tools promo running until the 22nd which drops the price down to $16.99 and $23.79. Add a another small item for free shipping.

I couldn't resist at those prices.

All the sockets are pass thru.

Not the 75pc set, 17 sockets are pass thru, 36 are are a combination of regular GW sockets, 1/4 and 3/8ths drive, mm and sae, 12 and 6pt. A lot of filler, but worth it for the locking flex ratchet.

Curious to what the advantage is to these over just a ratcheting box end wrench?

Well the obvious answer would be MUCH cheaper, this is also a lot smaller/lighter to carry around than a bunch of wrenches if you want to go portable.

You will still have to carry around the case full of sockets and the ratchet, and 8pc gearwrench sets go on sale for around $40.00 quite often. Put them in a roll pouch and you still have portability.

Thought there may be an actually hands on advantage. So far all I've read is their fit in tight spaces, but still seems like a flex head ratcheting wrench would fit even tighter. Just my 2 cents.

This is true but the 49 pc set can handle 32 different sizes if I read that correctly. 32 wrenches vs the small set is much more expensive and weighs much more.

Just how I see it anyway

Just asking because I was thinking of ordering a set at the sale price before they sold out today. Actually glad I missed out now, as I don't really see what I would need them for with all the gearwrench sets that I have already. May be just the ticket for some users, just not for me. Thanks for the info.

I am kinda glad they sold out too as they are not necessary for me and eventually I would have bought them. :lol_hitti

I am considering one of these sets, with the locking flex ratchet. Would I be better off with the vortex or just a set of locking flex ratchets? I hardly ever use SAE so I dont care much if I have them.

Basic ratchet is a "most used tool" I have about seven depending on what the job is that I am doing. The pass thru sockets are a "problem solving" tool, essential for some jobs, but not as nice as a good quality normal ratchet.

When the bolt has to pass through the tool, the Vortex may be the best choice, but a ratcheting wrench or even a normal wrench should still do the job. Unless that is your regular use for a ratchet I would buy a good conventional ratchet and sockets first.
