Stubby's?

Im just a weekend warrior but i know there are some jobs on the Cummins that need stubby wrenches so its an excuse to buy a set of SAE and Metric.

Question is what brand should i get? I save the snap on stuff for things like ratchets and usually go with cman for everything else but i have a few options.

Cman Pro 20 piece metric and sae set is $100
SK 20 piece set for $90 (on clearance at sears.com)
Kobalt has individual sets for $30 per set
Gearwrench ratchets 16 of em would be $100 on sale or if i wait for another 1/2 sale even better?

What would you guys suggest?

Maybe the SKs since they might have better resale value?

I'd do up the SKs. I like the idea of the gearwrench ones too, but seems like the box end of the wrench can be too bulky for some applications.

After BWM's ordeal, I cannot believe this but, I also would actually buy teh S*K over the Cman Pros in this case.

However, I would would opt for the Craftsman Pro stubbies. It's just my personal preference but, I feel that all SK combination wrenches suffer from a fat *** syndrome where the area around the beam and box end is fat when compared to other wrenches. Your results may vary.

I would go c-pro. I've had less quality issues (none really), and they can be warrantied much easier than sk if needed.

I bought both the SK set and the Craftsman ratcheting set that is on sale for $99.97.

I don't think you will find a better price on either set. I'm happy to have both but I must say that the finish on the SKs is amazing. Plus you get a crappy toy corvette from China!

I own those sets but, I haven't used them much. It is a good price though.

I guess the jaws might spread but yeah your probably right. maybe ill be feeling a little risky and use my stubbies instead of my reg wrenches and throw a 5ft cheater on it.

I have teh standard length Craftsman locking flex. They are bulky as hell as it is. I would imagine that having that much bulk in a stubby wrench would be a lesson in futility.

I do have a set of plain-jane GearWrench non-flex, non-reversible stubbies that I really like.

For the non-ratcheting type, either S*K or Cman Pro will probably work out great. Flip a coin...

I have the SO stubbys in SAE and love them. they feel really good in the hand

I have the Cman stubbies in metric and they have served well.
thats a hell of a deal on the SK set for both. and I dont think you would ever hurt them unless you are cheating

When I had my first car (A '72 Ford Maverick) It keep breaking the starter flange. I took a Craftsman 6" adjustable wrench and lobbed about 3 1/2" off of it with a Port-A-Band to tighten the bolt that I couldn't get a socket on. (this was way before I knew anything about crowsfoot wrenches) I used it all the time to reattach the starter.
