I need some ideas

I got three brand new very large metal electrical cabinets as part of a deal.
(I bought the contents of a guys storage garage for a vehicle and these were included)
I will try to upload an image of what I'm referring to. Two are stainless and one is machine grey they are about 48"x48" and weight a ton.

I was thinking of hanging them on the walls in my garage to use as cabinets, one concern is they were not originally intended to be used as cabinets so they do not have shelves. should I try to make shelves and hang them or do the garage gurus have any other recommendations? Thanks in advance for any assistance you may offer.

I can only imagine the freaks that would come out of the woodwork with promises to come and look at them and the emails from rich counts offering thousands over my asking price if "I would gladly send them with their courier"

They were basically free to me....My purchase offer was based on my value of the vehicle and these were included so he didn't have to move them. I could scrap them but that seems like an unfair demise?

I bought my house from an electrician. On the garage wall was this cabinet. It measures 36x42x8.

He had already installed some shelves made from plywood so I just filled it up.

I never really knew what I had. Thanks to your post and APMech's reply I am considering taking it down if it would be saleable. I believe it is this cabinet.

What I said was partially, but not completely humor.

As with many industrial things, the huge list price is not the price the customer paid (if they're smart). Further, the price you can ask for a piece of new surplus is a fraction of what was originally paid as it's not worth all that much used.

Still, your cabinets were not inexpensive and probably have some surplus value. What I would do is take your cabinets by a surplus electrical equipment dealer (if you have one in your area) and ask them if they're interested. Alternatively, you could try Ebaying them. Regardless, you should get enough money from the sale to buy some nice wall cabinets. If not, go ahead and turn them into wall cabinets. They'll be sturdy enough!

I certainly wouldn't scrap them!

A good sheet metal man can make shelves for you or you can use plywood. 1" x 1" x 1/8" angle makes good side rests. You can secure them from the outside with machine screws.

The value of the boxes is irrelevant if you don't have the time or inclination to sell them. Turning them into useful storage is a neat idea. I say go for it.
