Flea Market Score

I went to scrounge around the local flea market like I do every weekend and was rewarded by finding most of a Snap-On socket set. It is the 3/8" drive deep 6 pt SAE SFS081-SFS281 set though the 5/8" SFS201 socket is missing. Not much wear but pretty rusty inside. I also found a Snap-On 5" 1/2" drive extension and a long Craftsman 1/4" extension.

After a dip in the ultrasonic cleaner and a little elbow grease most of the rust was gone.

Not bad for $25. Now I just need to find a 5/8" that matches the style. Time to start watching the classifieds.

Great score! I have got some of my best flea market tool scores from the 5 gal buckets UNDER the tables! You have to get your hands dirty rooting through the buckets. Thats where the deals are IMHO!

I like catching the one timers unloading. I once got a 15" snap on 1/2 ratchet for $4.00 like that. It needed rebuilt but I did not mind.

nice score. Last weekend I made the mistake of not asking how much the sockets were in a guys bucket before I dug through it. After I made my pile I asked how much and then he looked and said 1.00 a piece, then he noticed it was all snap on and said 5.00 a piece. they were not in great shape so I walked away.

The guy also had a Snap On TQFR250C 1/2" drive 250ftlb torque wrench. What is a good price on those? Think I could get by without having it recalibrated?

Just beg/borrow/steal a beam type and check it yourself to see if it's out bad. as long as you are torquing evenly, that is generally the main concern...

Yeah, a whole $2. He wasn't selling the complete set previously. I wasn't going to quibble over the price.

And so it was to your benefit, for the $2 I would have done the same.
