So, for years I've been thinking about a giant building on my property to house all of my outside gadgets, and a workshop/machine shop. Eventually I might house a small manufacturing business in the building, and maintain the farm I live on from this building.

This year I've finally decided to spend the money and have the building built.

At this point I have excellent Engineering drawings already made, and I'm getting ready to plunk down the initial money to have the building built.

So, I figured I would post some pictures and keep some record of how the progress goes.

So, this is a hello to everyone, and a "Thanks in advance for helping with my journey to an awesome garage!"

Welcome to our corner of crazy... here's hoping everything goes as planned. i look forward to seeing pics just as I do with all these garage builds, no matter how big; but yours sound like a doozy! Even before you get pics together, maybe you could give us a run down of type and location and some general ideas of the overall timeline and features you plan to include like lifts, number of doors, what's going into it,HVAC, flooring etc.

Actually I decided to go with metal siding on the building, but it is going to be stick built, with a 6/12 pitch roof with a 16 foot wide x 100 foot long x 7 foot tall attic space for storage.

I'm going to try to attach a picture from the plans here, to show you the preliminary design.

There is also a 24x40 basement under a portion of it due to the way my land lies. This will have a poured concrete ceiling supported by large I-beams.

Thanks, From what I've read (and I've been lurking for awhile) you guys are just my type of crazy.

I'll try to post a LOT of pictures. Pictures are the best part of sharing the building process.

Attempting to build this myself would be biting off more than I can chew, that's why I'm having it built by a local company with a great reputation. They also have some very good guys working for them that I know, so I feel very safe about that.

In the next few days I'm going to post pictures of the site, the laid out string outline, the corners, and then progress pictures every chance I can.

Also, and I'll be copying and pasting this in the future:

1. It's going to have 7 overhead doors 10x10 and three personell doors.
2. One bay is going to have 6" thick concrete for a lift to be put in place. One lift.
3. There is going to be a 22'x24' workshop insulated and drywalled with lots of electrical outlets, 220, and the like.
4. Below in the basement that is the same size 24x40 there will be a root cellar at the deepest point in the ground for food storage.
5. The floors are going to be concrete with epoxy finish in the future.
6. I'm going to run a long line from the house and be able to run a PTO generator from my tractor to power the entire house AC, and everything.
7. The workshop area will be heated by natural gas, and I will also have a method for air conditioning, but I haven't figured that out yet.
8. The attic will be accessible by stairway, not pull-down, but permanently built in for safety.

More details to come!

When I read the title, I was going to chime in about walk doors. I build my 40X100 about 5 years ago and I am getting ready to retrofit an additional walk door at the far end. (***** to have to walk 200 feet to get something that was just inches away on the outside of the building. LOL!) But I see by your design, you have that covered. :)

Welcome to the 4000sqft Club. ;)
