I don't know Outlaw. Don't you think you should at least offer him more than the asking price? At 695.00 retail, i would at least offer him 200.00 so i could sleep better at night.

Why, why do people feel compelled to do this?
I know why. I take apart/restore tons of vises and none give me more trouble then these little guys that have a simple split ring holding the lead screw in place.
Its a pain to get off with out destroying it so the simple answer is to paint over it!

Those rings in my experience are soft iron. spread them a bit and they are off, and fairly easy to re-crimp back on. YMMV
