I am going to hit up my local driver this Friday when he comes by my house on his route.. This first time I plan on just buying 2 ratcheting screwdrivers for some gifts for my dad but I also want to ask if he has any BOGO deals going on. I have seen people show pictures of their ratchet deals lately, etc. I am looking to purchase wrenches, sockets, etc in the next couple of weeks so should I wait until then to ask (because I will be spending quite a bit of money with him), or is there a good way to get some free stuff thrown in when spending large amounts of money?

I do not know if they only like to shell out their deals to customers who they know and not to some guy who he just met that isn't even with a shop. I don't think I would be a regular customer but I have a pretty hefty order planned

Just wondering if I can knock of some stuff on my list with BOGO deals and then spend money on other things

thanks!

What do you consider a larger amount of money? I wouldn't go straight for the freebies myself.

about $1500. I submitted a thing online and he ended up calling me personally saying when he is by my place and what not. So since he reached out almost immediately then I am also thinking he will be happy to take anyone's money

I figure it might be better when dropping more money but if he has something then I may grab it while i am there

I personally spent money then asked for freebies ( mostly socks). I saved all of my freebie "cards" and discount "cards" until my last box purchase then called them in. Worked good for me. Probably didn't hurt that my dad is also on his route and bought a huge epiq and add ons recently

I would tell him I want this and this. Grab a business card. Ask if he had any deals going on. Ask for a flyer. Then say I will call you in a week or two with some more stuff I want.

Make sure the guy doesn't charge you more than online prices. Get the online prices for everything before you step on the truck.

man, everytime i spend over $20 i get a jacket or something nice. went in last time to buy a vise grip type of wrench, came out with a jacket. I browse, and sometimes get a hat or something. my dealer has been very liberal with the googdies.

$1500? You purchasing a screwdriver set?

Seriously, I'm surprised he's making house calls. But if he needs the money bad enough and thinks your on the up and up, why not? I probably wouldn't hit him up for freebies unless you plan on making this your last purchase from him.

the bogo deals are all boxed as sets so they take the rachet and socket set and add another socket set in a box and label it bogo . he has already baught that and has to sell it to make a profit . so buy away if you are gunna buy that much and pay upfront yeah have a list tell him what your wanting and say hey can you do any better on the price or throw in some promo stuff .my guy just gave us punch cards for free coats if we go 8 weeks with out missing a truck acct. payment he gets payed first any way but i got a real good driver when my kids school has a fundraising auction he steps up with tons of promo stuff

Yeah I am not going to be demanding free stuff but I have heard sometimes they hand out freebies for spending money. I want an epiq!

I like this approach. I will for sure grab a card and a flyer

I see you're in phoenix, who's the dealer?

Bob Maccagno (spelling? didnt quite catch it on the phone)

haha already have a spreadsheet of all the prices

I spent over $10k last year and all I got was a snow hat and hoodie.:scared:
damn! Yeah see my $1,500 is nothing compared to what most people spend. This is merely pocket change haha

Yeah after reading about how most have to call and call and call I thought i was pretty lucky

haha, It most likely wont be a regular thing where I am purchasing. Im not going to be forceful about it but just want to throw it out there

oh nice.. that sounds pretty cool.. That would be a cool school auction to attend

I guess I should rephrase a bit. I am not wanting to hop on the truck and ask for free **** lol.. I am more meaning like If I am planning on buying say.. 1/4" & 3/8" metric socket sets.. are the odds good that he may be like, "hey, I have bogos on one of those, or here is a free ratchet, or an extension set, etc" kind of thing

or would I be better bringing it up to his attention. I know if I were a dealer i dont think I would necessarily be throwing out the deals myself and would wait for them to bring them up unless it is someone who you think is coming back more.

I also can hit up the truck that used to come by the dealer while I was there. I have my uniform still so I could even wear that and he will probably hook me up since its the same uniform as a techs. I always had dealers asking me if I wanted a catalog or wanted to set up an account while I was there

I am all for a free hoodie or socks or something but more asking if they like giving bogos when you spend a decent amount at once. It sounds like most people pay with credit? I will be paying with cash so maybe that is also a good incentive for them

thanks guys

Ask him what the good deals are on the weekly flyer this week, take a quick look to see if anything on the flyer is among the items you want. Make sure it is a good deal though as a lot of the flyer ads are at list price. Also ask if he has any left over bogo deals still on the truck. As you might guess, if they have a limited supply (5 of an item), they might save them for a good customer or a potential good customer they are courting.

If they have several left however, it is fair game and cash is king. There are other drivers that if you are the first guy on the truck and you want something, it's yours. They are in the tool selling business and you are wanting to buy so those types are a win/win for the both of you.

Ok thanks! good information

I will make sure I have all the prices of the things I am looking for. Almost every store does the same **** so I am used to scoping out what is actually a good deal. "buy this and get these free" when the pricing is the same added together. Or when they "package" items together but when you price them out individually they are much cheaper

I stopped by the truck today.. picked up a ratcheting screwdriver from him

He was a very nice guy! much cooler than any other drivers I have met in the past

He handed me a bunch of fliers and a catalog and went over the credit spiel. I asked if he had any deals going on and he handed me some fliers. I asked him about the hard handled ratchets I am in to and he did not seem to know what they were I was referring to.. so I need to give him pn's

On the Christmas flier it mentions bogos and ask your dealer so I am going to call him and ask about those

seemed like a nice guy and he was happy to do business with me even on a smaller scale then usual

he also has only been at this for 8weeks he said so that is probably why he also wants to help me out so he can make money, unlike guys who have been doing this for 10years who dont give a **** about the garage wrencher

I was on the truck today, and asked about the XmasB BOGO deals you mentioned. According to my REP they should be receiving those items in the next few weeks.

Oh ok cool, thanks! Yeah I think I heard him mentioning there were more xmas stuff coming later on. I had to ask about deals though but once I did he wasn't hesitant at all to hand me discounted flier stuff.

I am hoping I can get lucky with some stuff I am wanting to buy already, and then I can use the left over money on other stuff I need as well. SO either way I am still going to spend the same amount of money. I only use Metric so it would be nice to get SAE stuff just to have around when I need it

some of the better BOGO deals you need to pre register for them with your driver

I also was wondering that as well.. I figure it is a pre-order type thing since they only get limited quantities from what I have seen. I will talk to him about it and see what he says. It would be better for him to have buyers already for things then thinking people will buy a certain BOGO and then it just sits collecting dust, so that makes sense. Thanks for the tip

My driver holds on to them until he asks some of his best customers. Luckily, I have spent probably 35,000.00 with him over the years and usually get first shot at them.

99% of the time my driver gets 5 of the 99 dollar deals and 5-10 of the BOGO deals , I have access to 5 drivers so i can usually get the deals

Yeah I know of a couple different drivers so can probably hit them up as well but I would have to get to know them most likely
