I'm starting to plan out a future garage. It will be separate from the house, but attached with a breeze-way (local code zoning rules for setbacks - breeze way gets around a 10' rule).
Anyway, it's your typical home car hobby / workshop. Site layout and existing stuff drives the dimensions to about 24 at the garage door on the west wall and about 38-40' deep. I may put up a dividing wall between the "car" side and the "wood" side, but likely not yet. Though I'll plan for it (I won't put a window or electrical panel where I'd want it, think about PEX lines, etc.).
I'm currently planning on starting construction in the spring.
Basics:
24' wide with a 18' door (might do two 8' doors, we'll see)
38'-40' deep
Need a ~12'x12' cutout to work around existing patio
North is "up".
Garage door on the West wall
Man door on the NW corner on North wall
Electrical panel on North wall (convenience location to house)
Heating will likely be radiant but that is subject to quotes (I'll run PEX lines at least, maybe do the exhaust flue for an NG water heater).
The oddball questions:
My wife has requested that there be a signal light so she can get my attention when I have ear-plugs in and power tools running. So a switch in the house that turns on a pair of edison lamps. Is it OK to have a switch in the house and a lamp in the garage (garage will have a ~125A sub panel fed from house)?
I picked up a pretty big kitchen exhaust hood that I was going to put over a welding area, and was going to do the same over a sanding area. They have their own switches - but is there a code issue? Tapping off an outlet circuit OK? (they are direct wire - but I could put an extension and plug on them and "temporarily" mount them)
I guess the "Typical" questions:
My understanding is that there isn't a code limit on the number of outlets per circuit for 120 VAC lines. True? (I'll still have a few circuits though. All 120 VAC will be GFCI)
For 240 VAC plugged circuits, is there a limit to the number of outlets?
I've planned on some direct wire stuff (compressor, welder, water heater, lift control) Each will get their own breaker.
A switched ceiling outlet for an air filter - ok to tap off an outlet circuit?
How many T8 2 bulb fixtures can I put on one 20amp circuit?

A stoop and garage door lights on 1 switch (all on light sensor fixtures)
Security lights at the NE, E and SE corners
120 outlets all over the place
240 outlets around perimeter
Couple of 120 outlets in the ceiling for power/light drops.

Floor plug under the table saw and main work-bench location
Will have low voltage phone, RG6 and Cat5e lines run from house.
