Does anyone have a Snap on 1/2 80 tooth ratchet?

I know that there was an industrial catalog that showed the part numbers for the 1/2 80 tooth ratchets and was wondering if anyone actually had one?

Snap on has the part numbers up now for some of the 1/2 inch 80 tooth ratchets and I was wondering if anyone had bought one yet so that they could hopefully share some pics. :thumbup:

why not? generally the finer the teeth the weaker the ratchet, but with that design, the way the pawl wedges between the ratchet body and the gear it would be even stronger!

Just Like with the 3/8 drive they did not have any pictures or descriptions on the 80 tooth series until a few weeks after they came out. You have to type in S80 and SF80 to see that they are in the system, priced, and ready to buy. :thumbup:

I am looking forward to an 80 tooth ratchet, it will be nice when the bolt is too tight to tighten by hand but too loose with the ratchet. The 3/8"s are awesome, it will ratchet on a bolt that is loose enough to turn by hand.

As old school that I am, I'm open to new ideas. We'll see if Snap-on hits a home run with 72 's. i like mine, but I'll do a comparative review.

Convensional wisdom is that the finer the tooth, the weaker the torque and I agree. In the past, I like my traditional round heads better, but they do break at a given torque. I have to say, I like my new 72 1/4" Snappy and it's not a round head. I want to bust its cherry big time. Stay tuned for my 1/4" Snappy evaluation.

thanks Chad - As you know, I'm referring to the new Snap-on 1/4" products. They should be equally strong. I look forward to upgrading to the 3/8" Snappies.

Well I got lucky today guys. Two days ago I found out that the school I am going to has a one day annual tool show each year and offers the same discount that the automotive students get. I was able to get an FK80, S8O, and an SF80 which will be arriving in two weeks. I wish I would have had more money but that all went to tuition and books. Next year I'll be ready for this show!!!!!! :beer:

I finally received my 1/2 80 tooth ratchets today and they are sweeeeeet!!! I actually like the action better on these than on the 3/8 versions. :bounce:

Being that the 1/4" is only 72 tooth (because of the small size I assume) and still refered to as "dual 80", I wonder why the 1/2" couldn't have been made closer to 100 tooth. Not that I'm complaining, I love the action my dual 80 3/8 drives have. I also agree that because of the design of wedging the pawl between the body and the gear is where it holds it's strength. I had to tear mine apart as soon as I got them to check this out. Because of this design, and knowing that some folks apply a cheater bar to 1/2 drive ratchets, could that be why they stuck with 80 teeth on the 1/2" drive? :headscrat

It may just be me but it feels like the gear turns a little more freely than on the 3/8 versions. They feel great; I can't wait to use them.

I think so. It probably would not have been as strong if it was a 100 tooth ratchet because it would mean that the slots in the gear and the teeth on the pawl would be smaller.
