Lincoln Town Car Windows Sticking

So ive got a couple things done on my "new to me" 86' TC. Next thing i need to get fixed is the front windows.

The vent windows go up and down just fine...and if i just washed the car the main windows do as well...but it seems as the tracks 'dry up' and accumulate dirt, that they start to stick.

They WILL go all the way up and down and the motors on both seem plenty strong...but its sticking.

My question is what product should i use in the track to be able to allow everything to move up/down as it should. I dont know if i should use something like Liquid Wrench or a different type of lube or what?

Also, im assuming all i'll have to do is remove the door panel to get to the window tracks, correct? My only other car ive removed panels from was a 96' Taurus and it just had snaps...im not sure how the 86' TC's panels are held on...so figured id ask so i dont break anything and end up with MORE work...

I have just used spray silicon.
Just soak it good and let it drip down the felt into the door.

What kbs said, except I'd spray it lightly in the felt with the window down and cycle it afterward several times.

That's what we use on the H1s which are very prone to sticking.

Whatever you do, don't "force" the windows to operate. If they are sticking, help them up and down while you lubricate the sides. My '89 town car had the same problem. I was impatient with them and i jut held the button to make it go up and CRACK, the regulator broke and both the glass and the vent glass just fell into the door. To remove the panel, there are a couple screws and the door panel just unsnaps from the door.

You could try using powdered graphite. Just shoot some into the window track area (usually felt covered "u" channel). Also check to see if the "u" track is pinched anywhere.

Thanks for the tips guys..i did just that and it seemed to help quite a bit...greased up the windows a bit lol but other than that it seems to be helping.

Mercman, i appreciate the info on how to remove the panels. While now i dont have to remove BOTH panels, i do still need to remove the passenger one because the...strap?..i guess you'd call it....that you use to pull the door shut, needs to be fixed. It looks as though it has 3 peg type pieces on the handle that push through the panel and then will probably need some sort of a nut or clamp on the inside to hold them into place.

Guess thats next on the list huh?

You shouldn't have to remove the door panel to replace the door pull or "strap." There are just little trim clips at each end that hide the screws. Pop 'em off and remove. Thats how mine was, i dont see there being much difference between an 86 and 89.
