New Proto ratcheting combo wrenches USA.

If it weren't for having $400 and change left on this year's tool allotment, I wouldn't have even thought about it. Besides, now I can bring my trusty Blackhawk set home and sell off the Huskys!

Also, Proto has government supply contracts. I believe that they spec USA made tools only.

I am going down to my local Proto dealer and check these out. They are sweet.

the ratchet mechanism is the same as the black chrome ones. It is a very smooth action. The big difference is the I beam body.

I have had the chrome in the 14pc metric for a while now, and they work great, and the ASD jar does hold very tight on any bold. The proto tools are excellent tool, very well suited for the industrial buyer needs.

spline functions essentially the same as a 12pt ratchet gear with the off corner engagement.

I have tried the kobalt extreme set that covers metric and SAE, and they will strip fastener. I have not yet strip a single metric fastener with the proto spline, and they are my primary wrench. On most fastener except spline, they engage off the point, so they do now strip. Even on 12pt, they engage not at the point but slightly back. And I use them allot on e-trox and they work great.

Interesting, they look just like Mac Precision Torque wrenches which are Taiwan.

Stanley Mac and Proto are all same company.

It sounds as if the Proto is a step up from the others. It may have been the Kobalt or the Craftsman that I was thinking of. Thanks for the input, I'm actually interested in these now.

As a long time member of GJ I think I can say that we thank you for your participation and hope you will continue to participate in GJ discussions.

I will look into this, as I do not have any "gear wrenches" and have been considering them for work for quite some time. As I work on large aircraft the spline drive is very desirable.

Well just heard from the local Proto rep, they are so busy with orders for the SAE wrenches that metric manufacturing is being delayed until January. Seems like a good problem to have. I should have a 10mm wrench sample in my hands early next year and will show it off here.

I like them, but I haven't put them to use yet. I have never used a splined box end...only time will tell. The overall finish is nice. The chrome is really good. The ratcheting mechanism is nice and crisp.
