recommend some long reach needle nose plier sets?

Needing a standard straight nose, bent nose and maybe some hose pliers. Any suggestions? Would like to keep it on the less expensive side. Under a 100 for a set if possible.

I believe Proto makes a decent set. Ill have to check to be sure though. Think they're about 25 a pair.

I think I got a set cheap from cripe dist that were Napa or GW, I forget, but doubt there is a wit of difference between most brands.

Crescent sells a set with long reach needle nose and long reach bent nose pliers (the double x-beam style) for somewhere around. $25-$30

do not get the double x beam design i have the blue point ones and they are ****. its not that they break or anything like that the issue is that when you go to really grip on something tight the design of those pliers doesnt allow to let you grip very tightly compared to a regular design. i have the mac hose plier set which do work well got the on ebay for about 40 bucks new. it is a three piece set. i also have the mac xl needle nose set which is a two piece set which i also bought on ebay for about 40 bucks haha. and finally for regular extended 11'' needle nose you absolutely cannot beat the design of the mac heavy duty long reach plier set. they are much beefier which means more of your grip ends up where you want it they are also slip joint. knowing mac like i do i know none of those pliers are made by them. im just not sure who is making all of them. i think astro pneumatic is making alot of their new pliers i dont have the most recent design with the bent handles i have the set with just the contour. and as for the heavy duty pliers i really dont know who makes those but the part number from mac is p11hd-s, and p11hd-b

I've used SK and GearWrench and have been happy with both. Even the double-x pliers. Like posted above, the double-x won't grip as hard, but there are spots where they will save your tail.

Sears has the Crescent Double-X set on sale right now for $20. I grabbed a pair when I was in there recently. I haven't used them yet, really. But they seem decent.

I have that pair of crescents shown by Jack above.

I agree with dapple that they don't have the power of a standard set, but when you need to use pliers through an opening at a long distance, they work great.

Mostly I have used them for grabbing dropped tools and parts in tight spaces, but recently I needed to remove a cotter pin in a really awkward location and I couldn't have gotten it with any other tool I own.

I picked up a cheapo Pittsburg set from HF....They seem to work ok, so far...If they fail me at some point, I will buy a decent set....

I agree with Jack, mine are gearwrench but I think I read somewhere that crescent makes them for gearwrench or vice versa. I like how the nose will open up to full width with minimal space.

Something like that. I have Crescent and Gearwrench double X's and they are identical, except for the grips.
More of the stuff I bought............and still really haven't used.

I looked at harbor freight, lowes, home depot, c-man, etc and just couldn't find anything of good quality. a fellow GJ member turned me on to the above ebay steal. you can buy individuals or the set like I did. just check out the sellers "other items" to see what the options are. I think they're every bit as good as SO.

Looking through some other stuff last night I found my order from Cripes, Napa brand so warranty in any Napa store for life, straight and 45 set was $12 plus shipping.

I bought a pair during the 1 time a year i go there, the tips wouldnt open past 1/4" because the joint was ground incorrectly. Big surprise for the $5 or whatever they were. Threw them in the junk drawer. Im a big fan of the Snap-On long needle nose but i know a lot of people cant get around the price. The Proto ebay set is indeed a good buy. The Matco 3pc set of 10" needle nose can also be gotten for a steal on ebay with just a little patience and yes they're USA. I was seeing sets that were a little dirty but otherwise no worse for the wear going for $30-$40 all summer.

Hands down I believe the protos on eBay to be the best deal however I needed q set ASAP so I went to horrible fright and bought the two piece set for 14 bucks minus 20%. I pulled all the stock off their shelves and pieced together two that were actually fitted and ground properly. They seem to be decent especiallly for the use they will get. I read the review on Jr's website that said the bent nosed ones will snap off at the tip if you use them sideways. All I can think is the guy is saying not to grab onto something and pry with them such as pulling a nail or something. Idk. They should stand up if they aren't abused. Time will tell. Till now the cheapest set if pliers I had in my box were a set of cresent brand arc joints which haven't let me down.

The Proto set is nice, same "style" as the HF extra long handles, where the GW and Napa are double X, which makes a BIG difference if you have clearance issues. I've got both, with the long handle type a mix of super long HF, and normal long Titan or Mountain brand.

I'll say that my hands kept slipping off the curved shaped handles of the HF pliers when I was trying them out in store. the more S shape of the proto set's handles makes a big difference. That said, I should have bout the crescent set for 19.99 at sears on black friday, but I cheaped out. will probably get them when they go on sale again. Since you got the HF ones, you could still get the proto set and relegate the HF ones to back up status....christmas is coming, be nice to yourself!

Don't forget pistol grip style either, when you need a long reach you may also need unobstructed view of the fastener.

I only have the bent set but the Sunex long reach pliers are nice, I use them often in a professional environment and have no complaints.

It doesn't go back in the same door though, Snapon is in the shop I hang around every Friday for quick and easy warranty issues.

Out the same door doesn't mean its the same, could be lower quality steel or any number of differences.

That said I have nothing against Williams, but I don't go out of my way to buy it like I do some other brands.
