Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I was busy! Painted the walls KTM orange and grey with a white strip. Laid down my Racedeck I ordered on the Black Friday sale, and started building my work bench. Its all 2x4 framed and some black melamine on top. Still have a lot to do, building shelves, drawers, some wall hanging cabinets and going to stain it all black I think, maybe paint it.

I like the way the racedeck appears to be smaller squares farther away and larger squares closer up.

Sweet job there!

^ Thanks! The racedeck came out really awesome. Much better than I thought it would. I put some garden/weed matting down before I started and the tiles make zero noise. Can't wait to finish everything so I can start putting everything away in its place lol!

Happy because I fixed the ATV by using my head and ingenuity. Saved having to cut out the frame and find the same area from a parts machine.

Then I broke another part about an hour later.
Can't win.

Finally took the time and the effort to actually hang all three of my ten pound fire extinguishers and the red/white signs pointing to them.

They've only been setting on the floor for the last 18 years.

Please take some pics if that is ok. I would like to see your set up. I want to install some fans as well. I have ideas for a cupola with a fan inside of it to conceal it and have duct work through the attic area to two location through the ceiling for welding and exhaust.

Built this for all the small parts...
Screws, nuts, bolts, rivets, connectors etc.
Going to clad it this weekend in aluminum and rivets.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Cool, you made your own bolt bin/cart using the plastic sorting bins? That looks good! If you clad it in metal, then it'll look pretty sweet indeed.

Are you worried about it being tippy at all since it has such a small footprint but tall height?

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

The top of my counters is 26 gauge painted "brite red' steel sheets I bent up at work. Its what we make roofing out of or cladding. I can only bend it at work with a real brake as the little one I have at home I can only bend aluminum and 28 gauge steel.
the sheets are 4x10 and when I damage it enough I can put another right over top.
If you go to my build thread you can see more of it.
As for it being tippy, with the bins that I filled so far I put the heaviest at the bottom and it felt ok rolling it around so far. I will end up putting a couple of handles on the side down low. Also, I don't plan on rolling it around often, It was a good spot to fill as the other end of these cabinets will be another matching work bench for my drill press, bench grinder and vise.
Cheers

I used black Melamine, its about $40 for a 4x8x 3/4 sheet at my local Ganahl Lumber. Stuff is awesome looking, its what most retail countertops are made out of.

I did this today...

I don't hate winter but it's always a little depressing putting the snowblower on the tractor, especially since I lost my partner (grandfather) a couple years ago. Still makes me awfully proud to use his garages and his good ole tractor (wouldn't trade this thing for the world even though it doesn't have a cab, hydraulic dump bucket or a quick attach pto).

I did that AFTER I spent an hour taking **** out of the shed that my mom's boyfriend stacked in front of the blower

...that pic was after I had taken out my old Suzuki A100 (that belongs in the other shed, not this one), all the lawn furniture, and a whole bunch of other stuff which didn't really need to be put there. Turned a 20-minute job into a 2-hour one. Oh, and I managed to break one of the barn doors on the shed too while I was at it. Another project for next spring, since I shouldn't (knock on wood) have to open the doors again until then, now that I've got everything back in there and the lawnmower put away too.

And this morning I went and sold 100$ worth of scrap copper too I had laying around.

Practiced TIG welding, got the welder a hooked up 2 weeks ago and just got to practice. I
Knew it would be much different to do 3 things at once but it is coming together slowly. I give much respect to a good TIG welder because I am not,,, yet!

I bought a small dish drainer for $8 at Walmart. I made three pliers racks. Really good way to organize the tool box and save space. I was surprised how well they worked.

Re-wired the 6V MoPar spotlight Larry_g sent me:

Had this cool tube light from some broken stereo stand - didn't need 5 feet of wire in tho, so it offered itself up to the cause...

IMG-20121208-00162.jpg

The wire was brittle right into the handle, so I replaced it back to switches:

Well, I was really looking forward to working in the garage tonight, drinking Yuengling and cleaning my 66" GULF sign I bought a while back and putting it on the wall, but I got a call from work and was ask to come in tonight instead. Couldn't turn down double time right here before Christmas.......................wish I was in that garage, though.

Nothing today since I have to work. But I finally had some time Thursday, I replaced the leaking Holley fuel pump on the Camaro. I then took the camaro for what will most likely be her last ride until spring time. Hard to believe that I had her out in December, usually snow or at least salt on the roads around here.

Hung some work lights where there previously were none. Also cleaned up the shop some and put some parts and tools away. Nothing major. Mainly just listened to the radio, tinkered, and drank.

Put up some more shelves and cleaned it a bit. Hoping soon it will look like a garage instead of a storage unit.

Finished cladding my parts cabinet with my son. He doesn't appreciate the rivet gun pinch.
He said he will help again if I bring the pneumatic riveter home.

You riveted the metal to... wood? I guess the rivets could stick in holes and kind of expand a little. It is only cosmetic, true.

Disassembled Kennedy tool box I got for $20, stripped the paint, primed and repainted with a semi metallic black which gives it a nice hammered finish I quite like.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Not what I wanted, but ripped the passenger side mirror off our 07 Mustang GT. We got new appliances and the hand truck was still in the garage between the two vehicles. Since it was bright yellow, I payed it more attention than the white wall and crunch. Took it to the dealer since it put a small ding right below the mirror. The car only has 8800 miles and it's an 07 model. Fixed up an old metal cabinet from the 60-early 70's for storage in my utility shed. It's not pretty but works well enough. Did get 4 of the 6 vehicles washed and it's now been raining for 2 days straight.
