Stanley USED to be a good brand. Now since they have started making most of their tools in foreign countries are mediocre at best. They are better than no tools at all. Old Stanley is pretty good. They are homeowner grade tools pretty much anymore.

Most of the new Stanley stuff I've seen has said it's Made in the USA with "Global Materials"... My guess/hope is that the plastic parts like the handle (using the screwdriver set I saw) is from Asia, and the steel shank is MiUSA. I can't be certain though...
I am certain of this: A tool partially Made in USA is creating more American jobs than a fully imported tool, and therefore gets my vote.

They're not bad, but not Snappy good either. I have a few, and would use them without issue. The older stuff is the best, though. The problem I see is with warranty. You have to send them the tool, and wait for a new one. I don't abuse my stuff, so other than an occasional screwdriver tip, I haven't broken much.
At the price, they can't be beat.

I bought a Stanley hacksaw at WM a while ago, the pin that holds the blade on broke the second time I used it, haven't been back.

There is a difference between "consumer" Stanley hand tools and the Stanley you get at places like Grainger. Most of it isn't "oooohhh ahhhhh" great type stuff, but it will get the job done reliably and economically. The model 100 plus screwdrivers are still some of the best out there and still 100% USA made.

Whereabouts in New Brunswick are you? I'm in the Fredericton area. I have one of the Stanley sets that are always on sale in the Canadian Tire flyer. They seem to be decent quality, haven't had a problem yet.

I so wish I could figure out that picture sending because last night I bought two stanley squares from back in the day and everyone on the GJ would be proud to put them in a display case. The key word as someone pointed out above is "BACK IN THE DAY" they made the most amazing quality tools that every person was proud to own.
Today they became the "BORG" from star track pumping out tools that lets just say you might not be so proud to put in any display case. I got wind of a rumor years ago from a friend of a friend that new of a friend kind of talk, that said stanley was learning their lesson the hard way and they were going to make a better hand tools for the woodworker but I have never seen that happen!

A couple of years back, Stanley revived a high-regarded name from the past when they introduced their new "Sweetheart" line of premium hand planes & chisels. Sweetheart tools were originally available from ~1920 - ~1934.
By all accounts, they are the best Stanley planes in a long time, but even these do not compete with the best now available...

Stanley owns tons of brands including Mac, Proto, Dewalt, Bostitch, and Porter-Cable to name a few. Oh and don't forget Black and Decker and Vidmar.

I bought a six pc set of Stanley ratcheting wrenches and they seem to be as good as my Gearwrench ones. The box ends are actually a bit smaller. No issues with them and cheap, about $3.00 a wrench!

Sorry, just not true, I have mega Stanley tools, their line is varied USA, China, and Taiwan............it is good stuff, and I am pretty picky. It does just fine. I prefer Snappy, but for the price point it can't be beat. I prefer the Fat Max stuff over some of my high end tools. Stanley is a good product.

for some reason I love Stanley tools, their fat max tool boxes are real good also. I just picked up the 28 inch fat max tool box today and it's a beast.

i have a couple of new stanley ratcheting wrenches and impact sockets i picked up at a used tool store a couple years ago.
i use the ratcheting wrench almost daily, and it hasnt failed yet.
if/when it does, i'm only out $1

I was cruising wallyworld tonight for some razor kinfe blades, didnt peek ar wrenches but check out the sockets, super nice and gread deals considering most are about a dollar a piece, 15 pc 1/2 drive for 19$,,,,, and I think,,,,,, just about as good as any and maybe better considering the cost, near disposable at the end of the week.
