Snap-On RMA on old socket

I have a few old socket sets from my dad. I just send in a RMA for a 10 mm deep impact socket. The lady told me over the phone that they don't make this type any more and they would replace it with a new model but could tell me the new model. Anyone have an idea what model they would replace it with?

I found this one too but the end is no longer tapered like the one you have.
But that is most likely the part that replaced yours

That's too bad they don't have any taper ones. I like to use impact sockets because I feel like they wear better then the chrome Snap On ones. The taper design helps me get into some tight seats sometime. Thanks for the help guys.

Aren't the newer impacts thinner walled than the older, tapered style?

This really shouldn't be that big of a deal. Making tools for your special application is pretty standard shop protocol.

I have grinded down wrench in the past to make them thinner. The only bad part is Snap On warranty is gone.

True - but an impact socket is going to be tougher than a chrome and there's no chrome to chip.... plus we are talking about a 10mm here. Enough torque to damage the socket and you are way past what will break the fastener.

Save the Snap-On and get a cheap one to put a taper on. I've had to make thin-walled sockets before and I usually chuck them in the lathe and turn the OD down to where I need it.

The newer style will fit more places for what its work, I have seen in on powersports stuff.
