Rest In Pieces

My dad has been using this at work for the last 35+ years and it finally gave out last night. Do you think Proto will warranty it? ;)

Anybody know who makes 2 1/2 in - 1/2 dr extensions? I know Proto still makes one but it looks smooth and my dad wants some kind of knurling on it for grip.

I have some of my grandfathers Snap On stuff and have warrantied a couple of pieces.

The guy was shocked when I brought in his 1/2" long handled rachet for warranty. Amazingly he was able to get parts for it.

A great example of a quality made tool. I'd say your dad got the expected life out of the tool, but that doesn't mean it should be voided from warranty. It's worth a shot I guess, worse they can say is no right?

Not an impact. He broke it using a ratchet.

So. It isn't a chrome extension. Hence, it is an impact extension. Doesn't matter if he was using a ratchet with it or not.

Know someone with a lathe? Get an impact extension, and knurl it (you can't knurl over chrome though).

Have you not seen an industrial finish?

It is not an impact extension. Most of the time when a tool that old is used constantly the chrome finish wears off and this is what they look like.

It is labeled Plomb Los Angeles 5460 and date code 5D ( i think it means 1935 ) .

I called a local Proto dealer and its about 20 out the door shipped, arrives in 5 days. Harbor Freight has an impact extension advertised as 2-1/2; I am gonna stop by with a measuring tape to see if it checks out.

Maybe I'm blind but I don't see any knurling on the broken example shown?

It doesn't have any and my Dad always wished it had knurling.

Gedore makes one that's 63mm. To be precise, 2.5 inches is 63.5mm, but it's still very close. www.german-hand-tools.com sells them. That said I'm not 100% sure that the short one is knurled, but I'm pretty sure it is.

I'll check it out, thanks.

If you are looking for it to replace something of your Pop's then have someone fix it. I know it may not be cost effective but having a Tool with you THAT long and laying it to rest *****. I bet he would appreciate it. You could Weld it, Machine it then Knurl it for him. I bet somebody on here may give you a good deal. It will never be the same but that would be pretty cool from a Son.

Maybe he needs a new one too!
