I notice Elroy has good taste in rulers.

In Elroy's opinion everyone should have a nice selection of 6" scales. Do these cover the bases adequately ?

Moose thinks Elroy should invest in a nice INOX ruler, made in France. Moose has two, a 150mm and a 300mm and finds them to be excellent.

Moose understands completely, and a Brit has a natural obligation to dislike the French, and their cars.
However, Moose has found these rulers to be very good and wishes he coule find more. USA-Made Incra rulers are aslo some of Moose' favourites, they're pricey but worth it.

I don't understand the negativity toward France. Sure, they have some political woes, but they also have some really excellent tools and engineering. French engineers are known for unique and ground-breaking designs. I have never have a tool sourced from France that was anything other than top quality.
This attitude is similar to someone thinking that the Chevy 350 is the only engine that matters. Was it influential? Yes. Is it compact and powerful? Yes. But it really doesn't have the finesse of a fine DOHC flat-plane crank V8. I love my Corvette engine, but I won't pretend that it is the only engine that matters....

All my French tools just wouldn't work more than 35 hours a week and then suddenly gave up all together.

Not quite, TDI stands for Turbo Direct Injection on VAG cars. Some people think it stands for Turbo Diesel Injection, but they are wrong.
Moose' favourites are the 5-litre V10 TDI engines found in Phaetons and Touregs.

We think Moose would love working for a Citroen dealership.
But seriously I had a Simca from the 60's that was the biggest piece of **** to ever hit the road. The carb would vibrate loose no matter how you tightened it down. There were many other problems but that was the worse.
However I had a Chrysler Horizon with the small Peugeot engine that I just couldn't kill.

Thank goodness Moose knows what TDI stands for. There are more than a dozen different TDI engines available in the UK and almost no-one knows the real meaning. Drives me mad.
...and like he says, we have to dislike the French.
Us Brits have fought more wars, and for longer, with France throughout history than any other country.
So what if they have good food, lovely countryside, and some rather good art and engineering practices. They are the ENEMY.
...and to return to the original thread. I'm on a lot of Land Rover forums and I love 'em.
A lot of this forum goes over my head - like Snap On v Craftsman, and we don't even have Sears or Harbor Freight - but it's about people who like garages and tools, and that is like HOME to me.
