Need help with Snap on tool box

Can't find a stamping anywhere. Any ideas on year, model, would be appreciated. I'd also like to know a ballpark figure of what it's worth since I have one to many tool boxes now and would like to sell it. All the drawers work great but it does need a paint job badly and no key. No major rust beyond surface rust. Thanks in advance.

It is in the upper center of the box. The stamp will be faint but it is there. That is a kr 300. I have one from 63 and that one is several years newer.

My box stamp 69' (not a KR300) was on the front bottom right corner. Next check on the back. That box has some character.

locally there is one for sale in not much better shape than yours
the guy is asking $300 with the top box as well (top box is on a little better shape) and it has gone unsold for several months. I have been looking for one of those boxes for a base for my valve grinder, I have called the guy and he is firm on his price so I have not gotten it and apparently nobody else has either

3 months ago. KR300's typically go for 3-700 here in denver. I stole this pair IMO.

No. I found these on Craigslist who listed something they did not know what they had. The boxes were covered with some overspray and were used in a wood working shop. I spent about forty hours cleaning and gently removing the overspray.

You're right. I found the price list from 1967 and the bottom box was around 300.00 new in 67. After looking for this type of box for around three years I feel comfortable in saying that your box in it's present condition would be 3-700. But... it depends where you are and what someone is willing to buy it for. You have one of the better bottom boxes made by snap on IMO.

I have to question that the OP's box could EVER fetch $700 in it's present condition. As with cars. cosmetics has a LOT to do with price, and I would have to say that one without some cleanup/refinishing would be at the bottom of the scale...

Sorry to be negative, Lets be realistic, it has a LOT of wear, scratches and rust, not to mention the occasional ding in the metal...

I got it from the original owner with all the original receipts in the little red plastic Snap-on wallet. Bought March 24, 1977, he paid:

my kra300E is a '76 and doesnt have the riveted trim either.
i think that was on the earlier versions, maybe the 300b?,
i dont remember seeing the trim on them in the '80's catalogs i had

at least that one has the full drawers, mine dont

I have the catalog and the price list for mine in 67. The riveted trim was not an option and it is shown as part of the box. The options in 1967 that are listed are the bottom drawers, side handle and a side outlet.

My guess is the earlier boxes had it. hope that helps.

Didn't the earlier 300-series boxes have a steel tambour? If so, any guess as to when it was changed to aluminum.

IMHO, the aluminum is flashier, but not as strong. I seldom pull mine down, so I forget it's there.

Wish it had the three bottom drawers, as the bin just becomes a junk catcher.

A KRA-300B/KRA-59 were my first tool boxes. I bought them new (with very minor freight damage)in June 1970 for $295.00. Kept them untill 1989 when I traded them in on a KR-1000/KR-1100 set up.

Absolutely agree location also affects prices, sometimes dramatically. But it is what it is. If in great condition I think that applies more than if in so-so condition.

Listed it for $250 yesterday and have an older gentleman coming out tonight to pick it up. So I know for a fact its worth that. Makes me kinda wonder if I should of listed it a little higher? Im happy either way. Hopefully the guy restores it.

I paid $250 for mine with a full set of drawers. The box is well used, but is completely usable. From what I have seen, that is a fair price. The guy I bought it from had knew what it was, but not a value so I basiclly gave him that number. I was happy and so was he.
