Good extension set

So I noticed that all my extensions are a mix of **** (no name china) and good (SK, old craftsman). Now I want a matching set. Any suggestions for a good set and how much are the sets you like. Thoughts were SK or Snap On 3/8 to start and move on to 1/2'' finished by 1/4.

After twisting the ends off of some chicom extensions, I bought a set of SO extensions in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2. I have never looked back.

If you cruise Ebay, you'll be able to find a bunch of etensions that meet your criteria, whether they be, Matco, Snap-on, Cornwell, S-K, Proto, Mac and many others. They are there

My wobbles are SK, my regular ones are Blue Points, I have a few Craftsman and Mac mixed in as well. I prefer Mac's. I like where they put the knurling.

Oh, I also have some Duralast extensions, they ain't bad either.

snap on ! they are awesome. I will sell the 1/4" drive knurled set I have with the tray for $85 shipped. I don't even think I've used all of them once because I have a wobble + set and always use those. no owners marks.

I too have just whatever odd extensions came with whatever ratchet sets I have acquired. I have needed different sizes at some point in time. So the extension question to the OP's (pun intended) is what should I be looking at for common lengths? wobble or not?

Reminder: I am the office guy with tools, not a professional nor hobby car rebuilder like some of you talented folks.

I have Snap-on 1/4" 3/8" 1/2" wobble & regular, no complains & I can't remember when I bought them but they've served me very well for a lot of years.

I mostly have snapon, but I like the mac ones with the knurling on the female end better.

What I did for my Impacts, as Craftsman sent that part overseas, was to get Allen USA from Farm & Fleet. Decent price, believe they have non-impact as well.

I got a mix match, they work,, about half of them probably couldnt even find a brand name on,,, they survived this long, not sure why I would want to replace something that worked.

kolbalt, gearwrench and craftsman are good. Do you want locking or not. The craftsman locking are still made in the USA. And you still can find nos USA made regular ones form sears.

I like the wera ones, they are very nice but pricey.

SK makes good stuff.... but like most, for too much money IMO.

Sounds as though we share similar extension mixes (the good, the bad and the punches).
Were I to replace for the sake of uniformity, I'd prolly go to black impact ones.
Not sure who makes black wobblers but I bet they can be fairly easily had - all it'd take'd be a blast cabinet and a bottle of Ospho!!

Northern Tool's 1/2" drv locking extensions work pretty good.... to the point they p me off when I get in a hurry!! *L*

Don't think they're quite as inexpensive as HF's though....

I have a whole mish-mash of extensions, Cornwell, Wright, SO, Craftsman, S-K Wayne, Fleet, and I think even a Proto.

What is my point? Unless you are absolutely obsessed about having them all match, there's no sense in dumping a ton of money into them. You can buy good name brand used ones for next to nothing because people typically end up with so many of them. Locking and wobble extensions may be a bit harder to come by cheap second hand because they usually aren't included as part of socket sets, buti don't think I've ever paid more than a couple of bucks for a used normal extension.

Get the MAC locking extensions with screwdriver handles. You won't regret it.

i have extensions from nearly all the major brands. my first grabs are actually some old herbrand wobble extensions with the external hex on the female end.

i like the knurled macs too.

the gearwrench extensions are not all that great it seems to me, kinda janky, sloppy knurling. maybe i have a bad batch.

I just picked up some Koken 1/4" drive wobble plus style extensions and they are very nice. The great knurling on the female end combined with the wobble+straight ability makes them a lot more useful than my old craftsman set. They are a lot of money for something not made in USA or Germany but the quality is great.

Snap On extensions have a larger diameter than most of the others I have tried and they dont seem to twist as much in the longer lengths, In my opinion when you are attacking some hard to reach corroded fastener this is better as you can feel if the bolt is likely to shear or not. Not really a fan of wobbles but sometimes they are a godsend.

I also have some shorter Beta Utensili extensions which are nice quality.

Unless you're using some serious coupons, I'd look elsewhere... that same set is $55.25 at thetoolwarehouse.net.

I don't have the wobbles (yet), but I have regular and locking SK extensions that I'm real pleased with so far.

The HF impact ones look pretty solid and should hold up as well as name brand chrome/non-impact ones.
