I'm a total newbie when it comes to garages. My garage floor is a complete mess. It's not level at all, has a ton of oil stains, concrete is chipping like crazy. I only use the garage to store my kids toys, lawnmower, toolboxes etc. I also work on my motorcycles in there.

What are my options for redoing the floor? I need something that I can roll my bike jack around in, can handle the occasional oil spill etc and is not slippery. I also notice humidity in there... My budget is like 2K, maybe a little more...the garage is approx 300sq ft. Can anyone point me in the right direction? also, any good recommendations for someone to do the work in NJ? Thanks.

I'd fill the chips, etc., and give it a coat of the Rust Oleum garage floor epoxy. Better than new and you'll have under $500 in it any way you go about it.

How far off level is it? does it run to the inside or to the door?

You can rent grinding machines to smooth out the rough places. I've seen them but I've never used one so I'm probably not the best guy to be giving advice about that.

It's hard to tell from the pictures how bad off your floor is. Grinding the floor and putting on a good quality multi-coat epoxy system may be an option, but if you have humidity in the garage along with chipping and possible spalling of the concrete, you may have moisture issues that are not good for epoxy. You may want to conduct a moisture test.

You might want to consider one of the available interlocking tile products. That way you won't have to spend a considerable amount of money in prepping the floor and you can get a good quality tile for 300 sf. with the budget you have.
Here is an article on interlocking garage tiles that will explain the benefits. There are some good reps here in the forum that can make recommendations for you.

I would consider grinding, then installing porcelain tiles. This will eliminate any future chipping and mess, plus is more durabel and reliable than any epoxy system given your issues with old concrete and moisture.

At only 300 sf, you would still be well less than $2000 if you did even part of the work yourself.

I second porcelain tile. That area can be done in a weeknight.

what is used to fill in the chips ? I just got done grinding my abused floor and looking for something to fill in chip spots and level out a couple waves..... I was told by a concrete guy to use non-shrink grout as it had a high psi ?
