A-symmetric or Symmetric 2 Post Lift .. I just cant Decide..

Hey guys.. I need a little advice.. I've read 100's of posts, watched tons of you tube Videos, talked to Shop owners, and Talked to Vendors.

I cant make up my mind.

I'll attach a pic of my shop layout. I *think* I want to put the lift sort of lined up up with my door towards the back of my shop. I have a Flat bed wrecked that i'd like to be able to bring inside sometimes, and the farther back I put the lift the better.

I will be doing General mechanics on anything from an old ******, to maybe something as big as an F250.

I would Prefer to be able to load a car in either direction because I have a lot room from the door to the lift, and not as much room from the back wall to the lift.

My Friends who own shops both recommend I get Asymmetric. But the lift guys I've talked to said just go "symmetric" and install them "wide" (145").

What do you suggest? Is the placement of where I want to put the lift an ok idea?

I think you can only load a vehicle one direction with an asymmetrical lift. I have one and can only load it driving into with the front end. I like the asymmetrical because it's easier to open the door to get out.

The biggest concern is that you keep your mounting bolts 6-8" away from any cracks or expansion joints. The different manufacturers vary on the distance, I kept mine 8". Everything I did centered around keeping that distance.

How Wide are your Col's? I was told if I mount them at 145, I'll be able to easily open the Doors even if I go Symmetric.

Have you looked at the Versymmetric lift made by Challenger? It can be loaded symmetric or asymmetric. Your diagram with the lift close to the back wall IMO is better suited for asymmetric.

I have considered it. But I think I want to go with BendPak. I've been talking to Jeff, and he is good people!

I have an asymmetrical (Mohawk A-7) and do in fact load my 1997 Nissan Kingcab XE D21 Pickup in both directions, without any problem? Despite the high falutin' model name, it is a small pu truck.

They are the same price for me.

I went asymmetric. You can load both ways, and depending on how long your door is, you may have zero chance of hitting loading it "backwards". I would definitely go for the wide option, as well.

Really depends on what you're lifting and in what direction you want it to face.

I went with a XPR10 and lift Ford diesel crew cab/ super cab both with 8' beds p/u trucks and cars. I'm not limited which way they face.
