wax on toolbox

Would wax be a good idea to put all over my toolbox to try to prevent rust or is there any better ideas? My toolbox is out in a cold garage and rust is starting to concern me as it gets older. Does anyone wax their toolbox? and if so, does it really matter what kind of wax?

I wax my tool box to prevent rust and corrosion from hurting it.

I use whatever I have left over in my wax collection that I'm not going to really use to much of on the cars.

I was wondering the same thing as you when I bought my new toolbox! Cause the rust ***** and I would be pissed if this thing starts rusting quickly. But my dad keeps the garage heated now.

It's not really a question of rust, but dust, debris and , if working with or around paint, overspray protection.

Do metalwork, grinding, work around sparks and nearby welding or have someone who loves to use a blow gun, and dust gets everywhere.

As for type of wax, anything you use on your car. A quick detail spray is good for weekly or monthly use plus the wax, but I worry more about dwr. slide lube than the box rusting, no matter where it is stored or used.

I waxed mine once when I was moving it to a new spot. Must have needed it too, the rag was red when I was done. I can't say it looks like new but I guess it didn't hurt.

For an easy to get, off the self cleaner wax, Meguire's seems to work well. A lot of people like Mother's too.

In the old days they used camphor blocks. The modern equivalent is called a vapor phase corrosion inhibitor, or VpCI. A number of companies sell them, one I'm familiar with is Bullfrog: http://www.bull-frog.com/
