Hey, someone showed me a tool I absolutely need (really I do :bounce: )

Ayways, it's for punching holes through grommets. Like if you wanted to add an aftermarket wire to go through the firewall through an empty grommet to the batt.

The tool has a handle like a screwdriver and a tube that goes all the way through it and the business end is cut on an angle. The tube goes all the way through the handle so you can feed wire through the handle punch a hole slide the wire through and remove tool to make a nice tight fit.

He said he got it from a Snap-On truck (but tool isn't Snap-On) and he hasn't seen one before or after that. Anyone know where to get one or even have the name of it?

-Thanks

Imagine cutting a straw at a 45 and put a screwdriver handle on it.

A piece of copper tubing works well also. cut the end of the tube at an angle and use it to make holes in a grommet and feed wires through and pull out. suggestion from a fellow remote start installer.

good idea i'll have to keep a few feet in the box. I ordered the thexton but i'll get some tubing for diff sized wires.

If you have any more tips to make my life easier, hit me up!

If your pulling wires a couple lenghts of a coat hanger works well one short and on long ground to a point at one end and a tight hook at the other for holding the wires to be pulled.

At the shop we have some car antennas sharpened to a very sharp point. I like this because it leaves a small self healing hole. From the inside find your grommet, push it through. Then tape your wire on VERY good, even give it a shot of penetrating oil. Then back to the inside and give it a pull. I have pulled 4ga this way. Just be smart about it when poking through though.

Side note: Once doing a older caravan this way the hood release cable grommet is way to the drivers side. So I would grab someone and tell them to "catch" when it comes out and bend it out into the open. A normal person would use a long set of needle nose, not my boss. He just stood there feeling with his hand. A stainless antenna sharpened to a razor point will go completely through a human hand.

Is that what happened to your boss?

The glorious United States of Europe decided that coat hangers can't be re-used by shops - even charity shops.
So one of our local ones bagged up a dozen wire hangers and offered them for free.
I got the bag. Wonderful source of a nice stiff wire for loads of jobs, including pulling cable through grommets.

Damn, that tool even looks scary. Kinda like the tool designed for a heroine junky with a screwdriver fetish...
