No ... there's a lot of good makes for drill bits such as Cleveland Twist Drill and Chicago Latrobe among others.

Pass! Look into Norseman for a very good USA made drill set at a fair price. I have the mechanics length 29 piece set, and they have not met a metal they couldnt drill nicely through yet, including stainless.

I have had excellent results owning Enderes 4 in one screwdrivers. At least the ones I have owned were made in the USA. I have never had a tip, flat blade or Phillips, get broken or change shape. The HEX shape near the business end of the screwdriver.....you can put an adjustable wrench on it for added torque getting hard screws to turn.
They also used to have a small model you that you could put in your shirt pocket. It had a clip.

I have dozens of Dewalt HSS twist drills that I got in the bargain bin at the Dewalt Factory Outlet. They are all USA made (not sure if Dewalts still are) and would definitely recommend them. The only thing I dislike is the reduced shank on the drills above 3/8" on the ones I have.

Went to Home Depot to buy some #2 phillips bits.
The choices...
DeWalt
Ryobi
Vermont American
All three brands said made in China on the package.
I left without any bits.
You forgot the fourth choice: Hilti. Mine developed some surface rust on them... but they seem to be machined more precisely than any of the other bits I found at HD.
I soaked them in some ATF and the surface rust isn't a problem anymore.

Roger that. I have never been impressed with DeWalt anything... bits, blades, drills. Wait, I take that back... I did buy a DeWalt cobalt drill that was sourced from Germany that really seems to do the job okay.
I would seriously look into the Norseman magnums.
Update, today I went to Lowes.

As previously stated, the DeWalt bits were of Chinese origin.
With the exception of the nut driver inserts, all of the bits from Kobalt and Bosch appeared to be made in the U.S.A. China was the country of origin for the nut driver bits, both brands. I didn't check every style of bit, so always check before making your purchasing decision.
I went with Bosch #2 phillips bits, several styles. The Bosch had small teeth cut into the tip to aid in preventing "camout". They were only slightly more expensive.

I ordered a Wera 6" long #2 Philips at about 2am along with a Bosch lithium impact driver. It shipped at 9:41am, ETA tomorrow morning. I'll let y'all know what it's like.
Wiha, Wera, Apex, Zephyr, Bosch and DeWalt are all good. I have some DeWalt bits and they're very good, i don't know where they were made.

Yep, Moose, thats a PS40 to us. I had one but had to send it back as it came with the motor burnt up.

I work with a couple of guys who swear by the DeWalt drill bits. Me, not so much. The guys at work have destroyed 3 of the 1/2" drill bits, either bent, broken, or dulled. They claim the individual ones are better than the ones in the sets, but as far as I've seen, all the individual bits are made in China, and the sets say made in Germany and China. Why, oh why, don't they ever tell you which part is made where? I don't trust the DeWalt bits, drill or otherwise. I've got craftsman screwdriving bits, which are awesome, same for drill bits, which are nice, but I am looking for a large set, up to 1/2" by 64ths, those norseman ones look quite nice. I can hear them calling my name.

I tend to agree with you about the big box home centers though. I have often looked for simple common items at Home Depot without luck only to find them at one of the well stocked local hardware stores. Recent examples include: 4L-540 V-belt, spring bolt window sash hardware, and wooden Shaker pegs. The stupidest example happened just a couple of weeks ago. I needed a couple of 1 1/4" plastic conduit fittings to finish up a project. Well the H.D. near me sells 1 1/4" conduit and fittings but no longer stocks 1 1/4" lock rings or bushings.
