Semi hijack:

I've talked with both my father, and old timers (70+) and they have always talked about grinding their own, out of things like old axles. Anyone still do this? What are good sources of metal now?

I've driven plenty of rivets out with Craftsman pin punches and alignment drifts.
I don't think I have one that big (1/2-inch), but I've driven out the rivets for rear leaf spring hangers on two Dodge Dakotas, and factory ball joint rivets on several Chevy control arms with them.

Over the years I've put together quite an assortment of alignment tools and chisels, based off a craftsman set with several of each.

Inexpensive, they get the job done, and they're easy to buy 'cuz you don't need to track down a truck.

Easy to warranty, too--but I always dress the ends of mine every time I use them, so I've not had any break or require warranty.

Home use, I haven't had any problems with the Craftsman. But helping a friend with a commercial mixer, I have. Because of that job, I figure I will have to make some of my own (considered some old rebar I was offered).

Enderes, Mayhew, Starrett, Proto, the truck brands, and Crafty have a bit of all, no issues with any of them.

I've bought Enderes from the local hardware store. For home. Haven't used those a whole lot. Mainly just for carpentry. To drive finishing nails in. Knocked out a couple of broken bolts, etc.

So you've had bad luck with Enderes stuff? How so?

I ask because I've been tempted to buy a couple things lately.

Bad luck???? How did you get that I have had bad luck with them? I simply forgot about the Enderes brand. I wouldn't hesitate to give them a try.

Sorry... just reread your post. BTW, the Enderes seem to be pretty cost effective around here. I would definitely give them a try if I were in the market...
