Does anyone use any of those ultra mobile pc's (tiny laptops)? Things like the Aspire one, EeePC, etc?

I've been considering one for a short while now (about a year), and am interested in your experiences with them. I still need to look at some of those pc code readers and see if they will run on them, as well as using them for item/parts lookup, etc.

My boss has a EEEPC and raves about it. Of course he only uses it for e-mail and surfing the net.

Are you talking like handhelds or really small laptops? My laptop is smaller than a piece of A4 paper and is maybw 13/16" thick, it's a Sony Vaio VGN-TX5XN/B. I love it, it's so handy by being so small, and the keyboard seems no smaller or harder to use than any other laptop.

If you're talking palmtops/handhelds i used to have an HP RX3715 and it was awesome, really great and easy to use. I'd reccomend HP for handhelds, as i've never found any better.

UMPC, Ultra mobile personal computer. I believe the Vaio falls into the catagory, but out of budget, as all the Sony's I have seen are way over.
This would be a general use system (internet, webmail, things like this board or reference sites for car issues (wiring diagrams), wardriving (always wanted to try it), and hopefully (compatiblity?) a diagnostic tool.

Do I need one? No. I generally have PC access where I go, and can take both a bootable distro, and storage (usb, mem cards, etc). The garage is the only place where this isn't the case.

But HP does have one of the ones I was thinking about, HP2133, if I remember correctly.

I only really use mine for the internet and stuff, and i have VAG-COM diagnostics on here, coupled with a USB-OBDII it works perfectly. It's small and light, fits in my bag easily so i take to work everyday.

It does have an advantage over a lot of laptops based on its small size and weight but laptops are getting smaller all the time. Dell do some really small powerful laptops for good money. My sister has a Dell desktop and it's awesome.

I'm typing this on a Fujitsu U810. i love this thing and carry it all the time. Yes, the keyboard is hard to touch type on but one can do it. I wouldn't want to write a novel on it, though... This is not as cheap as an Eee, but its much smaller and lighter. Plus it has a touchscreen so it can be used with OneNote to take handwritten notes. There's a new model coming out with an improved keyboard (U820). One requirement are good eyes, though. the screen is ultra high res for its size...
