That is a lovely looking garage in a lovely looking location.

I dream about having a garage like that over here in the UK but there is no way at the moment so I'll have to make do with my little single car garage. :(

Please keep the updates coming.

Back on the job yesterday & today - framed out the far end gable wall to accept two windows salvaged off a buddy's job. Big gable wall - last picture shows 2x's put up to keep up the Tyvek although after tonights winds & rain I won't be surprised to see it on the ground in the morning.

BTW - the windows are centered, the 6x6 post on the gable is not. ;)

Maybe I missed something due to old age...but why siding before the roof?:headscrat

The siding showed up first and with the metal roof the gable finish pieces go over the rake edge so I figured I'd side it, put up the rake trim then cover with the roofing. The other issue is it's easy to move a 1x10x16' around in 10-15 mph winds, not so easy to move 3'x23' roof panels around in same. ;)

6 to 1, 1/2 dozen to another.

Now when I get around to the front I'm probably going to have to change that up with the roofing on the small section that butts against the side wall.

That stuff was all still in the hoop house when we took it down & as long as I had the Lull there I used it to boom some stuff up. I also took down the shelving and saved that - I should have a nice 4' shelf the whole length of the attic when I'm done.

Great start to what I'm sure will be a gorgeous barn/garage shop!!

Winds here in Shelton were pretty strong yesterday and the previous night as well... lots of trees down on my way to school in the morning.

Keep up the hard work and show some pics of the cars, too (in your spare time) :)

Back is done and coming down the other side. Tyvek stayed up with the battens on so we'll go with that again. :D

One more day like today and that side will be done - waiting for a good weekend so my mason can do the stone on the front. I'd like to have that done before I do the siding there.

I put the header across the service bay at 9' because my architect friend said that would work best with the scale - I think it's too low. I'm going to put the one up on the other side at 10' and see how it looks.

Not the day I had planned on having!

First the bad news - I was booming the roofing up and decided to put down the stabilizers before I boomed out/up further and with the cold hydrolics the valve stuck and kept pushing the one side up....enough to tip the roofing off the forks.

32 panels dented/deformed anywhere from 2" to 10", some scratches, etc.. I should be able to use half of them on the left side roof because the damage will get covered by the ridge cap and honestly, nobody will ever see it. So I ordered another 16 panels to do the right side roof - a $979 oops.

Now the good news - since I bought them with my credit card for personal use and they were damaged/lost/stolen within the first 90 days of ownership - I will likely get reimbursed for the charge through my cardholder benefits! :D And I can still use the damaged ones (cut to the length needed) for the roof over the covered storage I'll be running down the left side of the building later this year! :D

Since I had a couple guys there to help me and it was such a nice day - we finished the siding on the far side.

The sweatshirt Rob is wearing was made up by another buddy of mine a few years ago as a joke! I bet we could sell them! ;)

Got some real good progress done over the last couple days - roof is up on one side and from the ground you would never know I dropped it 20 feet! :D

Also picked up a cast concrete slop sink - price? FREE!

The replacement roofing showed up this morning (the moms at the bus stop were a little pissed about having to move their cars :dunno:) but it's pouring like a S.O.B. here - we'll see how the rest of the week goes.

Couple of cabinets I grabbed late yesterday, 22D x 48W x 30H - they'll get a raised base and will be at the far end of the work bay under the loft stairs. $50 each off Craigslist! :D

Well.....it's been a while.

I really ruined my back carrying the concrete sink onto the garage by myself, in between a couple of 40+ year old cars I didn't want to dent & ended up on the couch for almost two weeks!

But, yesterday I got some help and the roof got finished! Stairs went in too! :D

You carried that sink in by yourself? No wonder you messed up your back. Bet you won't do that again.

What is the color of the Lemans called?

I had a '69 GP the same color w/ a blue vynal top and a blue gut. I had bought it from a guy who owned a limousine company. Classy car. Loved that car, wish I had it today. But that was back in '79 and the gas crunch had hit. I was spending $36 a week on gas commuting to college and needed something more efficient. Should have parked it in the back yard and covered it as I only got $650 on a trade in. Hey, I was young and did not know any better.

Longest hood in production car history over 6', and the first car to have the radio antenna built into the windshield.

It had massive heads. I remember taking it to a corvette specialist for service once and he said to me in an excited voice "Where did you get those heads? I've never seen any so big before" Don't know about that, but it sure made me feel good.

Regards,

Beautiful work Boss! The garage will look fantastic when finished and will definitely look in place next to your home. It's a shame those stairs kind of block that window, though. I don't remember your plans on how you will treat the exterior wood.

Thanks guys.

Cemoto - yeah I don't think I'll be doing that again - I don't know what it weighs but it's well over 100 pounds - maybe closer to 200 and at 49 I should stop thinking I have a body of a 20 Y.O. ;)

The color is 68 Nordic Blue - the car is originally Alpine Blue which is close but the Nordic seems brighter so I went with that. Nice clean car, the floors & trunk were super solid so it deserved to get fixed rather than parted.

Press-Corps, I know & when we located the windows I knew it would cross them but to put the windows in the first bays would have been too wide & to put them closer together wouldn't have looked right either. They're only for light - too high on the wall to look in or out so I'm fine with it.

The wood on the outside will be getting a dark oil stain - like the barn I built a year ago for a customer (photo below). The window sashes & trim will be dark green as will the garage doors when they get installed. Should have a good look.

We installed the shelving yesterday that I saved from the hoop house in the attic upstairs - 4' deep, 36 long on the lower 34 long on the upper. I had some extra 2x4 material so I ran that along the back wall so that nothing will get shoved through the shelves and fall through the trusses. The first picture below is of the shelving we loaded in with the forklift before the gables got framed up - they went up pretty quickly and are now loaded with car parts. :D

Forgot the picture of the outside finish - I'll have some stone around on the front too.

Sorry about no updates - building two houses this year and another large project so time has been SHORT!

Got the stone on the front done, siding is done and built a 70' stone wall down the left side that will eventually support a shed roof for the truck & trailer to park under. The parts department is filling up and right now there are 6 cars & 2 trucks parked inside. Got a cool street sign just by chance when the town crew was putting the new one up - I'll have to find a spot up there to plant that. :D

Slab soon, wiring, water and overhead doors. Got to have it ready by fall.

I've got a very talented friend who showed up yesterday with some signs we talked about 4-5 months ago. These were patterned off old photo's of a famous (infamous) dealership back in the 60's & 70's. They'll add the perfect touch to the barn!

Looking great! I like the stone, nice work!

Any chance of posting a pic of the staircase? Thanks!

Also, what is the depressed place in the lower left corner in this photo? Looks like a slab under there.

The depressed place is an optical illusion - it's the top of a metal shelf unit that came out of a van my Father-in-law had years ago - you can see it at the far end of the other picture on the right.

The stairs right now go from a floating platform that's hung on the walls and from a post that comes down from the trusses above. Eventually there will be a post at that corner and the lower set of stairs will be on wheels and hinge at the corner so that when not being used will swing/roll under the landing.
